toneknob
http://www.nme.com/rate/bassplayer/start Last time I looked, Jaco was on 4.63 out of 10, and the chap from Arctic Monkeys was doing better than James Jamerson. pantherairsoft
Hmmm some odd results in there to say the least... more a vote of which bands NME readers like, rather than the skill of the bands bassists it seems...

BottomEndian
I haven't even been near any incarnation of the NME for years, and this page sums up why: Greatest Bass Players - Have Your Say Here's my favourite bit of bulls**t:
You look at Johnny Marr, or John Squire, or Eddie Van Halen, and you think, yes, I'd kill to be able to play like that. Conversely, you observe the masters of the bassist's art – people like Jaco Pastorius and Pino Palladino, with their liquid, fretless, floppy-fingered ways – and you think, hmm, perhaps I'll leave it.
No, I don't think that at all. I think the opposite of that.

Rich
Bloke from Nirvana - 4th Jamerson - 15th Jaco - nowhere Ridiculous 'poll'.
toneknob
This made me laugh, on the "Have Your Say" page "Don't be ridiculous. Next week we're doing 50 most punctual roadies"

leftybassman392
Last time I even looked at one of those 'polls' it was for, I think, 'World's best Guitarist' or something. As I recall Noel Gallacher was about 9th, and Alan Holdsworth didn't make it onto the list. Told me everything I needed to know and I haven't gone near them since. harvey1-8
It's a popularity contest. Wait till the Muse fans get a whiff of this. They're always rigging NME polls.

What the hell?
Yeah, there're a few weird choices for "Best Bass Line". I mean, what about "There's No Other Way" or "Girls & Boys"? And "This Charming Man" for Andy Rourke? Probably one of his most staid, root-heavy lines. Hmmm.
yituool
Hardly anyone has been rated above 5. People are probs giving them 1 if they've never heard of them. Also, Rob Trujilo didn't play bass on St. Anger, Bob Rock did. So it seems a bit ignorant of them to put his greatest bassline as Some Kind Of Monster (it should clearly be a Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves song anyway)
YouMa
Id rather read take a break, than NME, bring back melody maker.
skankdelvar
I'd rather read "Squirrel Monthly" - amazed NME still going. SteveO
I honestly thought that NME had folded (no pun intended) years and years ago. My only real memory of it was that it was terrible as emergency loo paper. Probably because it was so full of sh!t that the paper couldn't hold any more.
