Never been to one of these before, but planning on this one, and bringing some of my gear. However I've got little idea of the format, other than the idea being to get an idea of other peoples gear.

So can somebody fill me in ?

Does everyone bring gear, or is there a strong contingent of lookers only ? Do you just set up in your own area and stay put, or do people move around a lot leaving their gear on display ? And are there opportunities for trading and buying/selling ?

FWIW, I'm thinking of bring my Markbass combo (1x12) , together with Status Eclipse 5 Ltd (possible trader), Rob Allen Deep 5 (to show it off) and if there's anyones interested in seeing it, my BSX Allegro upright. If there no interest, I'll bring something else more easily transportable, Status S1 fretless 5 (unlined, a beauty and a keeper)

Oh, and I'll update the list once I know more about the format and I've firmed up what I'm bringing.

Hi Andy

Great - it'll be good to see you there!

The format is what you want it to be really; people bring their gear if they want to and if you do, find a space and set up (bring an extension lead btw). You can move around to see who else is there, look at a huge range of gear and also try out the Workshops, The Quiet Room and The Jamming Room. I have always left my gear on display at previous Bashes and moved around a lot, because that's what's good about everyone getting together IMO.

And yes, there are opportunities for trading and buying & selling.. In fact, there's a post on this thread that I'm sure will fill up this week with lists of what people are bringing along for that very purpose..

I'm definitely interested in seeing your Rob Allen Deep 5 and I'm sure most of what you've mentioned above will be of interest to other Basschatters!!

Several Basschatters have expressed an interest in bringing along stuff for sale or to trade. For example, Happy Jack will have an instrument or two and some PA gear which will be on offer on the day.

It probably makes sense to have gear for sale in the quiet room (assuming it’s big enough) but there’s no way that Basschat can provide “security” for this stuff. If you have stuff for sale, but want to move around the Bass Bash rather than be tied to a table (!) then you should consider keeping your stuff locked in your vehicle and putting photo-adverts on a table to show what you brung. If you want to do this but won’t be coming by car, then it may be possible to have another Basschatter lock it in his car for you. Happy Jack should have some spare room during the Bass Bash because the drum kit will be in use.
