sdgrsr400
An idea that crossed my mind is a "strings party": each person interested would bring along a set of (spare) strings to put into a pool, and could try out any other set in the pool. Basically you could try out alternative strings at zero cost. There are risks of mix-ups I guess, but I have heard of this being done in other contexts (students at music college). Jean-Luc Pickguard
Just an idea: I don't know if there are many players going that don't already do their own setups, but If anyone wants a free setup on their own bass while learning how to do it as a one to one tutorial including trussrod tweaking, bridge & pickup adjustments and possibly neck shim, I'm happy to do that - maybe we could have a setup bar if there's much demand & anyone else wants to throw their hat into the ring? It may have been Kiwi's (but don't quote me on that - he was down the side of the room I was when the setup was being re-setup). EDIT - come to think of it, it may have been a dark blue G&L - maybe Stringrayfans? Edited August 13, 2009 by EBS_freak
alexclaber
Some kind of set-up workshop would be invaluable. I've always set up my own basses and I can't understand how anyone could have someone else set up their bass unless they spend ages with them or revisit repeatedly. It's just such a personal thing (in my personal opinion!) Alex
MacDaddy
I would suggest that you make it a hands-on workshop though, otherwise you'll spend all day doing free setups for everyone else. A
+1 while I would never turn down a decent free set up, I do actually want to be able to do it for myself. I know the basics, but applying the knowledge under the eye of someone who knows what is meant to be happening would be invaluable.
