yourchoiceguitar Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Gonna throw this question out! I've been trying to think what musicians in the UK are able to buy from UK based sites and shops etc BUT is there anything out there we can't get in the UK but would like to get if we had the chance?? Anyone got any suggestions? Quote
davidmpires Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Acme at decent prices. Ritter there's more but I just can't think at the moment. Quote
Bassassin Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'd love to try a Lace Helix: Pretty sure they've never been imported to the UK. Jon. Quote

EdwardHimself Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I don't think there's really much you can't get here, it's just that stuff in the US seems a lot cheaper than here. Quote

Price in the US was $75, cost in the UK was £185 and this was when we were nearly 2 $ to the £. Land of the rip off.......what made it worse was that MESA will not deal directly with any punter outside the US meaning you have to use the distributor. winge over now Quote
jonny-lad Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'd like to try some of the new Acoustic Amps, but as far as I know, there's no sign of them being available in the UK yet! Quote

Did you end up buying one? If so, did you go daft expensive U.K. one, or less expensive but more complicated U.S. one? Quote
davidmpires Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 +1 But in the continent that situation is even worsem exception made to Germany. Most of the countries carry little stock Quote
GreeneKing Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I saw a Lace Helix in the Bass Merchant. Quote
bythesea Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009
I saw a Lace Helix in the Bass Merchant.
They are shown as one of the two dealers in the UK and Lace is one the list of makers on their menu (though they don't seem to have any at the moment). The other is D W Guitars in Medway, though I can't find them on the net. Nice looking bass though Quote

So +2 or wherever we're up to!? I'd like either a Resonator bass or a banjo bass. Not easy to get in the UK but one will crop up sometime, maybe on EBay Quote
JTUK Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I think only having one distributor of Bergantino isn't a good things for competitive prices over here.. Agree that the U.S have much cheaper gear in general but the Bergs UK price/mark-up is just plain silly IMV.. Even though the £ isn't the greatest, I have thought..more than once...on trying to justify a shopping trip to the U.S.. How do shops justify selling kit on an almost 1-1 £-$ rate..or worse..??? I think it is time for - horror! - a corporate giant to rival Thomann to come along and really push prices down. If it is cheaper to buy at retail prices in the US, import it and pay all duties and VAT etc and STILL be cheaper than the shops, then someone, somewhere, is screwing me over. Of course, there are some entrepreneurial folks who open up establishments (usually online) who do just that. But parallel imports are not legit... Quote
yourchoiceguitar Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 What about items for around the £80 to £100 mark - kinda like Ebows?? Any ideas? Quote

Sod grey imports and that, i mean it must be at least 9/10 nissan skylines that are imported using such methods from japan as they officially export very few to the UK. I was suggesting something closer to a European equivalent of Guitar Center, which has been blamed for the death of the small shop and a host of other crimes against music. But they also sell stuff at decent prices. I do have a problem with grey imports. I would rather have US prices at legit UK stores. It might happen... Quote

OldGit Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009
sx guitars
? Loads of them Here's the UK dealer list http://www.lxdb.co.uk/guitars/sx-guitars.php If you mean the decent SX basses as per Rondo Music in the US then we have Jim Deacon and Noname - almost certainly the same make with a different badge. Not as much variation but buying from Rondo isn't that painful. Quote
supabock Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Well i would settle for anything really as long as i didnt have to pay pounds for dollars Quote
