Mr. Foxen Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Can do plenty of guitar fixing that I need to, and learn by rebuilding trashed ones, I want to expand my skillset to amps, as I love tinkering. Is it a good plan to learn in the same way? Get myself a multimeter and read stuff on the net surrounded by amp carcasses? I've bought a couple of 'dead' amps on ebay to fix, and found some pot cleaning and a fuse is all they need. Didn't teach me much. Quote
steve-soar Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Find a local amp tech and see if you can do some unpayed work for them in your spare time. Quote
Dood Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Not wanting to sound defeatest or anything, but I would strongly recommend getting enrolled on an electronics course too - especially one that teaches you proper fault finding skills. I have indeed seen gear nuked by 'technicians' floundering around not knowing what they are doing. Quote

skankdelvar Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) +1 on the course. A dodgy guitar won't kill you, but a dodgy amp might Edited August 10, 2009 by skankdelvar Quote
