XOTIC 5 (USA) in Bocote/Natural = SOLD SOLD !!!

Early & original (rare) model Xotic XB-2C 5-string bass
All original XB-series basses featured:
· 34"-scale, 24-fret, 3-pc. Maple/kingwood neck with brass nut
· 1-1/2" at the nut - 3" at the bridge. String spacing is slightly under 3/4"
· 2 Kent Armstrong soapbar pickups with custom Xotic active preamp. Controls: Master Volume, Blend, Master Tone, and 3-band EQ
· Hipshot tuners and Kahler fully-adjustable bridge
· Built-in Dunlop style strap-locks
The XB-2C or "custom" came with an exotic wood top and back, and ebony fingerboard with ultra-cool aluminium rings inlays.
This bass features a bocote top/back with natural (oil/wax) finish. It has a very wide range of available tones and a very powerful sound. The "B" string is very tight and focused. It's certainly one of the best fretted 5's I've tried - both my instruments have exceptional tones (slightly different / woods) and playability. The only other 34"/5 with this quality of sound & playability (I've found) are Marleaux(s), who always used a 34" std. on Consat 5 basses (the new Votan's might be 35"). The EQ is superb - hence (possibly) the popularity of the Xotic pedals. Other specs: Neck = 24F Maple/Ebony . Neck Finish = Oil Finish . Fret = Jescar(#6150 type) . Neck Radius = 16R . Nut = Brass . Pickup = Kent Armstrong . EQ = Xotic Bass Preamp (18V) . Tuner = Hip Shot Ultra light . Bridge = Kahler Fixed 5-st /Black . Control = 1-Vol, 1- Master Tone, 1- Balancer (Pan), 3-band EQ + (Rear) 4-mid frequency Switch, Output Gain Control . [Switch] = Vol (push: series, pull: parallel for front pickup) Tone(push: series, pull: parallel for rear pickup). Strap Button = Jim Dunlop X 2 . MSRP: $4,200 plus shipping . Hand-made in Los Angeles, USA
The new (and current) Xotic company reappeared some years after the original folded :- http://www.xotic.us/guitars/ (..although it looks like my amber/black 5C on the page link!!). The Xotic pedals (which I've seen here on BC) appear to have survived throughout: any info. on this and the Co. /basses would be greatly appreciated.
This bass comes with it's original hard-shell case and keys.
A small amount of the "Kent Armstrong" lettering has rubbed off of the bridge pickup.
There is a very thin split in the top wood veneer between the pickups (see photos). It is very difficult to see unless photographed up close.
However, this is one of the "original" Xotic company basses - Volume and Blend knobs are push-pull coil tap for neck / bridge pickup(s).

Damn but you have some fine basses David :)

Loving this one.

Thinks to self - get those basses you never play sold & raise some cash. . .

Thanks for the +ve comment - they're exceptional basses; just not so well known (as yet). Don't see many on the SH market, so assume they're generally held-onto..
Price reduced !

Bump for someone who sold me a lovely bass - but David, could you check your inbox? Have emailed you several times about it.

Hi / Thanks Mike - really sorry about that; but have just checked Inbox. Only PM I can find is 3/7 requesting Bank details (?).

Either still currently available: had a confirmed offer on the Bocote/Natural inclusive of Courier to USA (the guys there know these basses, how good they are and how hard to find) ... and then the £ went up against the $ and it became prohibitive (particularly with PayPal's rubbish axchange rate!).

Re/revised and edited. The ££ is not now so urgently required and it's getting close to Xmas.
I might re-think this in the NY and go back to my idea of defretting the Bocote bass.
Until then, willing to accept offers (or interesting/equitable trades) on either bass - based on the original pricing (P#1) as these basses are exceptional instuments.

Current pricelist (+options):- http://www.xotic.us/guitars/Pricelist_XB.pdf

...and available basses (only 7/21 recent builds remain available):- http://www.xotic.us/guitars/available/index.html

(you can click on individual instruments for specs & photos. Very little change/s on the new basses from mine).

Here's one of the new Xotic XJ (Jazz) range basses .. which has got as far as Oz/ebay: -

... from what I've heard/read they are great J basses, with the same build quality as the SB's. Au$ 3300+ is currently about £1800+ though (before taxes etc.)

... I've currently got this bass on ebay (ends Sunday evening) so will be happy to offer at the same (start) price (fully inclusive) to BC'ers throughout this period !! :-

Came very close to one of these but had some indecision whilst deciding to go 4 or 5 string.

These just look so nicely made, real quality workmanship.

I've seen a few people looking for 34" scale 5 strings - I'm surprised one of these hasn't been snapped up!

OK.. have managed to sell a couple of 'minor' items (to help with the XS's of Xmas/NY) but still need to sell at least one high-end bass to make ends meet.

So - offering this exceptional bass ... along with another special deal on my Devon J5c ... until one (hopefully) sells.
For the bargain this represents, just checkout the initial description etc. in post #1. Obviously, No Trade(s)

Trying another option here, with the other Xotic .. which I'd really wanted to keep (of the two) but circumstances dictate another approach. ... SO ...

The two basses are virtually identical in terms of feel, sound, build quality .. but the amber one IS very special (and unusual, possibly unique) for Xotic (finish-wise) - and is featured somewhere on their website.
If anybody feels this one's for them, I'd be willing to accept a sensible offer based on the ebay listing.
Bocote/Natural photos and details are on Post #1
This bass is shown here:-

OK ... one last try for this (these) on here (+ebay) after which I'll return to my original idea of defretting the bocote one.
Creating a new post for the amber/quilt model.
Will add links to combine the two:-

Here's also a scanned copy of an old brochure I found for the TB-2 (original neck-thru version) which outlines many of the features of the bolt-on (SB-2)

Bocote/Natural Xotic SB-2/5 @ £949 (incl.)

Just seen this thread – boy are you having a hard time selling!

I gotta say that the quilted bass looks amazing! A total thing of beauty, as attractive to me as any bass I have ever seen. Unfortunately I have zero fundage right now, but if I win the lottery I’m sure I’ll be in touch!

Hi Golchen .. and thanks (again) for another bump and very positive comment !
I guess it's hard to sell anything much at present, but having always been interested in more esoteric and unusual stuff (often not well known in the UK) doesn't help - although it's now easier to research these instruments on the net (... but not to try them, of course). That's probably less true for this Xotic bass (cf. the Devon) as they've been around and well known (in the USA) since the early to mid 90's.

Give this evening's EuroMillions a try !!

Or give it a try yourself! - you might not need to sell ......

I would suggest that you go back and remove every post that says 'bump' and trim the thread down to a more readable size, it takes a bit of patience to get to the end!

Thanks G' - good advice, on both counts!
Once I've completed tidying this - removing simple BUMP's etc. - (I hadn't even noticed the delete X before!) I'll pop-out and buy a ticket: if I win I'll remove this and start compiling a to-buy list of instruments !

Posted

Final 24h. - there's currently bid(s) on ebay and a large number of Watchers, so it is likely to be gone tomorrow.

Actually I thought of this when in a newsagent and did the lottery yesterday. Dunno where I put the ticket though. On the rare occasions that I get a ticket I don't usually check it for a couple of weeks!
