Marcus Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) Hi Guys, just putting out a feeler for this rare and outstanding instrument..... I'm sure many of you will know the standard of the instruments John makes, the attention to detail in making these instruments puts the fender custom shop (even the masterbuilds) to shame.... John Doesn't take orders for instruments any more so you'll be lucky to get one from him direct and they are the proverbial rocking horse do dah on the 2nd hand market..... I'm selling because I'm committing to 1 instrument for my live work and as it's a tribute situation i've got to go with an authentic instrument..... Also I've just spent a fortune doing up a bass and I still want some Simms Led's to finish it off.... This Bass rings like a piano and resonates like no modern bass i've had..... it's just like a great pre CBS Jazz !! here's the bass on the bravewood site.... it's in the same 10/10 condition as it was built in..... http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/BlondeJtype60.html If anyone wants any further info or photo's then that's no problem, PM me, I'm offering it exclusively to the BassChat community for a week, if it's not sold here it'll go on ebay..... £900 May take Px up to £600 - Hit me with something ! might fancy, Warwick, Spector, Musicman, Status, G&L Lakland...... etc etc Cheers Mark Edited September 20, 2007 by Marcus
birdy Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I owned this instrument and can vouch for the amazing sound it puts out. It's got wizard pick ups I believe and certainly looks the part for anyone wanting a new old fender!! Mokl Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 If this is anything like as good as my Bravewood fretless, it'll be an amazing bass. Wish I could make you an offer, I desparately want a fretted partner for mine. Good luck with the sale mate. Whoever buys this is a lucky bugger!
Marcus Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 I'll take my old Fodera back as a swap if you like !! john_the_bass Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 if there was any remote way i could justify the appearance of this in our house, i'd have it unfortunately, i've not got the room or the money

Hand built by a master craftsman to exacting detail with love, care and true passion for what he does as a Bass Player himself and a Fender Enthusiast. If John operated a waiting list it would be years long.... when was the last time you saw a Bravewood advertised 2nd hand ? a 2nd hand USA reissue stack knob would go for £750 and it's built by "numbers" and put together by unskilled assembly workers ! I've has 2 of them and they both had rubber necks that wouldn't set up because the wood used was was a tree a week ago and they don't use graphite in the re-issues to keep them straight..... ofcourse you could have a MIM 60's Reissue for £600 built by Mexican Roadsweepers !! I know which I'd go for..... I hope that adds some perspective to what I'm offering for sale here Edited September 15, 2007 by Marcus
Mike Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Okay - fair enough, my apologies. Not too sure about the "mexican roadsweepers" comment, I imagine they're full-time Fender workers, but point taken. Good luck with the sale, looks like a super bass. But, a la Dragon's Den - I'm out!

If I hadn't just bought Walbassists '73 Precision I'd be seriously interested. Have a bump, and good luck with the sale!
Mike Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I'll have to take a look at this luthier. Why do you think he isn't more well known for his high standard of work? Niche market perhaps?

Mike Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Thanks for the info Marcus, very interesting. I'd love to check out this bass. Shame you're in the NE!

Forgot to mention guys..... the bass in incredibly light, without doubt the lightest fender bass i've owned (incl 6 Custom Shop Basses) Re Sound Clips .... yeah would be a great idea but i've not got any real recording facilities at home..... I'll ponder a while on that one.... Mark
Marcus Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 OK Guys...... I'm offering the Bass at a £900 to speed up the sale process.... Mark
