john_the_bass Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Just out of interest, is this built from scratch from plans or is it assembled from parts? Damn fine looking bass.
Toasted Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Bravewood makes his basses from scratch like Christian Celinder, not parts like Sadowsky / Lakalnd USA.
john_the_bass Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 sorry to go off topic - what parts do the likes of Lakland and Sadowsky use then - or do they make their own parts?
Toasted Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 They use other US based factories to make their bodies and necks. I don't mean Warmoth or USACG.

odub Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 That was very interesting , thanks for posting.

(BUT - I still think some of his 'distressing' is just not done very well - especially all that 'chipping' he does to the body. Genuine old vintage guitars just don't look like that...! But the quality of his guitar building work is obviously very high - so I don't know he doesn't leave it at that rather than spoil them with the dodgy ageing stuff...? Bizarre.)

It's got the closest you'll get to 60's Nitro finish really thinly applied, you can see the wood grain really clearly through it so it's got a great acoustic "Ring" to it
Mike Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) Fascinating article. And made for Kevin, too - that P he made looks just like the one this guy Kevin Lindsay has: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endid=102202793 Who also owns a few nice Seis (he was good enough to give me info on Nordy fatstacks for my custom build). It's amazing, the relicing looks almost identical, but this one on myspace is labelled a 56 Fender P. Edited September 19, 2007 by Mike

For what it's worth, I played a '76 Antigua Jazz last night and it was distressed in exactly the same 'chipped' fashion as some of the Bravewood examples. Maybe not to the same extent, but very similar. ta ped
ped Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Lukeward2000 has a Bravewood Fender Precision (57?) which plays as well as any precision I have had or played before.
