TMB Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 There is a raging arguement amongst my friends and collegues. They have been discussing 'The best bass player ever' and as expected Flea has been a hot subject. We all know he is ace.... and we all know that there are many more truly great players (too many to mention) but if you had to choose one..... would it be Flea because of his uniqueness and individuality or someone else? Help solve this row.. please... ! Quote

GreeneKing Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 He's a good bass player no doubt but arguing about something so subjective seems like a short cut to a headache for me Quote
Low End Bee Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 He's definitely the best bass player in the RHCP. Seriously. How do you quantify who's best? Bassists don't get points and play each other over a season. Quote

Wouldn't it be more fun to see who was the fattest or thinnest or goofiest bassist ever.... I think so. Quote
Kev Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 pointless discussion. He's the best bassist for RHCP, you cant go beyond that, too subjective. Quote

Adrenochrome Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 For the general public, I reckon Flea could be regarded as the 'best' bass player. (I reckon he's got more people started playing bass than Jacob Jazzstoryface...) Quote

I don't think the majority of the general public would even know who Flea is. Quote

A lot of my colleagues who like pop/rock often don't seem aware of who plays bass vs guitar in bands, and even less so with singers who play an instrument as well. Macca is more famous, I'm not sure how many punters see him as a 'bassist'. Quote

In fact a few years back the answer in a pub quiz to "who was the rhythm guitarist in The Beatles?" was deemed to be McCartney. An argument ensued... Alex Quote
BarnacleBob Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 The majority of people i know would be hard pushed to distinguish a bass never mind the bass player.....'why has yours got less strings than his then? mind if i put my pint on this black box? BB Quote
Low End Bee Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Anyway the real answer is obviously Overend Watts. Best boots ever Quote

Orphix Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I think what we really should be discussing is who is the sexiest...it is the only true way to measure one bass player against another! Quote
