Even though this guy might seem like any other rock bassist, he is quite well reknowned, and I have got to say I love his bass playing and his style.

What bass is he using here:

On their new album, they have let Matt put a lot more bass upfront in the mix, and thus I like the album more! Some nice runs, some nice thump, and some nice gentle overdrive.

Im presuming thats a USA Fender Jazz...perhaps he has Jaco'd the plate himself and just took it off, or its a fretted Jaco Jazz....if they even exist (maybe he had a custom one made).

Is it even a Fender? Near the end you get a close up. I know he uses USA Fender Jazz's and Alleva Coppolos normally.

Thanks - I am basically turning into a Jazz fanatic.

Was about to say that - could be a Joe Osborn with the plate removed. :)

It's a Lakland - you can tell by the shape of the bridge.
(That guy has got to be the dweebiest, uncoolest looking bass player I've ever seen. The song was sh*te as well).

Lol...fair enough. He has done some very interesting work session wise though...excellent chops with his fingers.

I hate to say it, but nowadays looking different to the norm is exactly what makes people stand out. Bass high, vintage style bass, playing with fingers like that is kinda 'Arctic Monkeys' but he does it well.

+1.

There's too many [US] bands doing material like this and TBS don't particularly excel at it (any more)...I remember when the whole emo thing was kicking off...JEW/Midtown/Drive-Thru thing. I genuinely thought that TBS had something when the Tell All Your Friends album came out.

Watching that video was a bit strange too; the musicians have a strange visual presence...visually they looked a little like Los Lobos, with Pete Wentz on bass and Albert Hammond Jnr on guitar.

Lakland BTW.

Wasnt expecting such a bad response! Never mind ay. I actually dont mind stuff like this, then again I like basically anything.

I agree this is in no way real 'emo'...before the commercial side of music got a hold of it emo was quite a dirty and raw type of punk....now its just a joke....its not meant to poppy and easy listening rock. I quite huge fan of more of the early 'emo' or whatever its called; stuff like Appleseed Cast, early Jimmy, Cap N' Jazz, Get Up Kids and the USA Embrace (not the sh*t UK Embrace)....etc etc.

TBS are just an alright rock band.

Must admit this is the first time I'd heard TBS, as a band i was in a couple of years ago kept on being compaired to them so i never did check them out. Not what i expected them to sound like. More mainstream that i thought they'd be, but not a panch on someone like rival schools.

Ummm... I actually enjoyed the vid/song, not a life changer but a short/sweet bit of pop/rock that has put them on my radar for checking out some time.

Indeed, and his image advisor's father should have had a vasectomy and save this world of such a mistake.
