Why is the search function on this website so utterly rubbish ?

I knew there was a thread about vocal mics in here somewhere.... so I type in vocal mics (the exact title of the thread) expecting it to be top of the list. Oh no... it's fourth... what was top ? A thread entitled "Bassists Cars" ! :) WTF !!

If you check the extra search fields it shows that by default newest threads are listed first. So if the "bassists cars" thread had both words in it somewhere (which it must have) and it was the most recent thread that had them (which it must have) it will come out on top.

If you had searched by titles only rather than the whole text (and again whole text is the default) it is the only thread shown.

Simples *squeak* :)

Actually the forum uses the improved Sphinx for IPB plug in which improves search capabilities beyond the default one, have a look here:

I've always found the serach brilliant, much better than the talkbass search, which is annoying because they make such a fuss about seraching before you post a topic, yet the search is entirely useless

+1... I'm sure there's a few people in Darfur who would love to swap hardships with you.

Mr. Far0n know I'm only joking... I hope.

Anyway, I'll be tip top after a little sleep. I'm knackered. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I think you have to go back to it each time. Haven't seen a way of saving your own defaults.
