And the Mark Adams 'Slave' sound I was on about:

PS. Much better idea having clips. D'Oh.
That sounds f***ing amazing and brutal, that's a killer sound.
Bring back analogue recording.

I absolutely love Muzz Skilling's tone on all the early Living Color stuff! Hard to pick a favourite but I love his tone in this juicy slap groove. Even if the song is sounding a little dated now, the guys sound like they're playing out of their skin... phenomenal playing. Takes me back...

I remember first coming across Living Color when they supported Anthrax. They very nearly blew Anthrax off the stage!

As you say, they sound awfully dated these days.

+1 on that. Also Pino's stuff (fretted) with John Mayer is also nice. Very warm.

Lemmy's bass sound on the Motorhead DVD Boneshaker is killer. Especially on "You Better Run". Even if you hate the Motorhead sound, you have to admit, that bass sound is unique! :)

Also, bit of an obscure one this; Dave Sherman's bass sound on Spirit Caravan's "Jug Fulla Sun" Album. Absolutely huge fat tone from an EB2, that needs measuring on the richter scale!!

I've got to agree there!!

I love Spirit Caravan, Saint Vitus and Hidden Hand. Wino's latest album is bloody good too.

I have Wino's "puntuated Equilibrium" welded to the car CD player! Come to think of it, that's a pretty fat bass sound on there!

I too love The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Saint Vitus, and The Hidden Hand.

Come to think of it, love all the DOOM bands!

Yes. I think I could narrow it down to that too.

Bit of a Uncle Sam recruitment tune.
But none the less, good Solid Bass playing.

Oh and anything Marcus and AJ.

Garry
Fantastic!!!

For me, two tones which are at the opposite end of the musical spectrum.

First, JJ Burnell's early Stranglers tone, eg Hanging Around, No More Heroes etc. Aggresive, gritty, and unique. Great example on the Stranglers cover of Walk on By:

Secondly Nathan East on Clapton's Unplugged album. Tasteful, musical, and perfect for the genre.

+1!! ahha, went to 2 gigs in a row and thought 'ooh thats a nice tone'. One gig was proper heavy rock (verging on metal) and the other was christian rock! ahha, ampeg rocks... and costs

wow, just wow.

I used to be after lots of different tones, none of which really go together well.

Then I discovered Glassjaw, and it has all gone out of the window.

Lovebites and Razorlines by Glassjaw is tone central.

Yeah you can't beat a bit of Stan the Man especially in a supporting role

Here is a bit of Marcus doing the same -- My all time best bass sound/tone/feel

I love Will Lee's sound. It's fat and punchy over the whole range and it sits in a
track brilliantly.

Oh.....Marcus has a killer sound too.

.......and Ray Brown and Paul Chambers on Upright

Got to vote also for some Barry Adamson -- His Magazine sound/stuff was (is) always Brill...

I think my all round lovely "usable" tone has to be Benny Rietveld, Santanas bassist. Such a fat sound right the way across the board.

he starts walking beautifully at 2:30 with such a nice tone!
