retroman
Agree on the Bass in Jug Full of Sun! Another Doom fan here, saw Saint Vitus at Hellfest this year, even met Dave Chandler whilst watching Orange Goblin! I didn't think I would ever see them play live, never mind meet some of the band!
Yeah, I've seen footage of that on youtube. Love Vitus, especially their song "Dying Inside". Wino's vocals were awesome in Vitus. I've been lucky enough to meet Wino a couple of times. Really cool guy, and signed some stuff for me. Very intense dude though! Met him, Sherman, and Gary Isom when Spirit Caravan were over here promoting "Elusive Truth" Always cool to meet your heros, especially when they turn out to be good guys

Slightly more recent nastiness: Alex
Ah, Rog. What a sound that is. Near to my ideal. Of course Les isn't bad either. Great example on the Stranglers cover of Walk on By:
I've always loved that tone.

Doc B
Most of my choices have already been mentioned but here's a couple: Doug Wimbish on Living Colour's Stain album, especially on Wall Melvin Gibb's overdrive sound on The Rollin's Band's On The Way To The Cage- fantastic Timmy C's tone on Audioslave's Exploder
JJTee
Fingerstyle - Lenny Kravtiz's bass sound on the whole Mama Said album, especially Always On The Run and It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over.
That is a great shout! What a fantastic tone he has on there.
