SS73
Just finished fixing my V8, first problem was that the compressor light wouldn't go out, it worked fine though, so I replaced the Cap and an N channel J Fet in the circuit, this fixed the problem. Next was a couple of crackly pot's that just wouldn't clean, first was the Gain 2 level pot, this had a bad spot 2/3 in where all signal was lost but an extreme nasal mid. Next one was the main volume pot, the track was funked around 1-2 position. I replaced these with high quality ALPS Blue Velvet pot's, which have really nice tracks and very fine brushes and perfect for the main volume as fine adjustment is needed low down. They were a bit of a sod to modify but now they're in. Mine didn't have a shroud for the first Ecc83, like the later V8's, so this was fitted too which will help with microphonics etc. What I found with the main volume pot was, (and apologies if I go on about it, but it really wound me up) it had been replaced before, but the monkey that did it, put the wrong pot in, broke parts of the circuit board too and filed the chassis hole larger to get the thing in because he soldered it in skew C... .It even looked like an old pot too, as the tangs were showing that the back had been off the pot. Anyway, thought you might like the post, going to get the thing fired up now. [attachment=31795:IMG00271...828_1157.jpg]
