benebass
There's always the Yamaha BEX-4 bass - mixes magnetic & piezo pickups with active EQ in a semi body with a flamed top. I love them & have two (in Gretsch-style orange & dark blueburst) - having a clearout at the mo so might have one of these up for grabs soon actually... B. B.
Well, I was only posting Epiphone's claim and I don't want to be defending them but... If you read the blurb in the link it's not a piezo and the magnetic pickup is unusual too.
Stereo Electronics: At the heart of this bass is the revolutionary NanoFlex(tm) and NanoMag(tm) pickup combination. Custom-made for this bass by Shadow Germany, these pickups provide a wide range of tones suitable for almost any type of music. Under the saddle, the NanoFlex senses the vibrations of the strings AND the body of the instrument simultaneously. Not a piezo, this exclusive, low-impedance 7-layer element has active electronics and 100% shielding to ensure no sound is lost and no hum is introduced. The NanoMag is located right at the end of the fingerboard - just like in Epiphone's award-winning Ultra-II guitar. Positioned at this sweet-spot, the NanoMag captures all the subtle nuances and harmonics of every string. Like the NanoFlex, it too is low-impedance with active electronics on-board but it features a tiny air-coil, 3 samarium-cobalt magnets and silver-platinum shielding for a hum-free output. Both pickups are controlled by an active electronic system featuring a Master volume, pickup Blend and individual bass and treble controls for each pickup.

Eight
Thanks for posting. I really want to try some full scale semi-hollow/chambered basses at the minute and this Epiphone looks very interesting.

They are on the Thomann site at £550.79 for fretted and £590.20 for fretless. Really like the look of this - I'd love a Rob Allen Deep 4 bass, but it's way over my budget - looks like the Epiphone could be a decent substitute. Soulfinger
Damn! I´ve been GAS free for over a year, but I really want that fretless. If it sounds good, that is. Don´t see myself spending that kind of money on an Epiphone though...

BacchusPaul
First post, wooo! This look really good. I love some of the things Epiphone do when they're not just making cheaper Gibsons. Another guitar in the hollowbody marked that's worth considering is the Dean Rhapsody. It's not the usual Dean fare. Their website leads me to believe that they don't make a standard, 4-string, fretted guitar anymore. They only have fretless, 8-string and 12-string on there. They have only the one pickup, but it sounds good, and obviously where and how you pick plays a big part in the sound. Worth finding the 4-string fretted version second hand, though. http://www.deanguitars.com/home.php Dean: some awesome guitars and an awful website

Although with Epiphone don't expect too much accuracy with Delivery times. Be patient and every Tom, Dick and Harry will have them. If you buy from Germany and it arrives f***ed, or you decide you don't like it, you'll have to ship it back at your cost (initially), if you try it in a shop near you, you'll enjoy the experience a whole lot more. If it's £25 difference, it's £25 well spent. I'm waiting.

EssentialTension
At the Last Bass Outpost someone reports on trying a prototype of the Epiphone Triumph II at a guitar show. Not as great as some of us may have hoped by the sound of it. Edited October 2, 2009 by EssentialTension
AndyTravis
This is going to be called the 'Zenith' now,i assume Warwick kicked off because of their 'Triumph'. These still haven't left the factory yet. Just in case anyone is waiting for one. Trav

Trav
That's strange because there was an Epiphone Triumph from 1931 to 1970: Ok, so it was a 6-string not a bass but still Epiphone's name and I guess the reason they called this one the Triumph II. BigRedX
There was also a Gibson Les Paul Triumph Bass that pre-dated anything that Warwick ever produced. I would have thought that the name change is to avoid confusion with this.
