haha i've found that most of the people victor works with do the short strap thing. It makes it easier to play certain styles.

it's like different golf clubs, you use different clubs for different terrain ya know

i find that people who call others 'noobs' based purely on the length of their strap usually means that in fact 'they' are the noobs

i don't know what you've been reading or who you've been listening to, but thats nonsense bro!
doesn't matter what length your strap is at for picking, you can either do it or you can't.
Look at many of the emo/screamo/hardcore bands... a vast amount of the bassist wear their basses up high and use picks.
it can be just as much for aesthetic reasons as it can be for practical reasons

For me it's not so much the high bass that's the problem, I hate the look when you have to have that 'limp wrist' look just to pluck the strings.

I think, as I've got older, my strap has got higher to match the fact the waistband of my trousers are going higher.

I favour what I'd call a medium length. The bass ought to stay in roughly the same place sitting or standing.

The higher the strap, the less bent your wrist on your left hand is, allowing better left hand technique (having a really low strap is terrible technique). Here's why...

1) Try making a fist with either hand; It should be easy if your wrist isn't bent to begin with.

2) Now try making a fist but starting with your wrist bent; it should feel uncomfortable because you're restricing the tendons in your wrist, making it more difficult to move your fingers fluently. This is why classical guitarists sit in a silly looking way, with the neck of the guitar higher up.


I personally don't have my strap as high as a lot of players because I don't like the way it looks, but I think it's important to get the balance between best technique/feeling confortable and not looking/feeling like a twat on stage.
