chris_b Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Try both, unplugged. Choose the bass that feels right and plays right. Then plug it in and change the pickups if you have to. Quote
Bassassin Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I don't understand the question. It's the "or" bit that's confusing me. Jon. Quote
iamapirate Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Not sure why, but always prefered a jazz bass. I think it's because my fingerstyle was always very strong, so I can push a J-bass when I'm over the front pickup and get a nice percussive sound, and still get a really rocky sound from the back pickup with just as much power from my fingers - I don't really 'do' soft playing in general. i do soft playing, it's just that my main fingerstyle is about twice as aggressive as most people's, so with a P-bass (with 1 pickup nearer the front) I tend to just push the bass too far all the time - which can sound great, just not 100% of the time.
