BassBalls External Freq pots

Hello Again,

Another question about Pedal Mods from newbie Mr Wud!

I'd noticed a thread on talksass regarding fitting knobs to bring the internal trim pots out on the Nano Bass Balls.

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=558116

I'd love to do this, but I don't feel confident enough about it to risk breaking the pedal.
Does anybody here in the UK know somebody on this forum who's good at this sort of thing, or any companies who might be able to help ?

I did search before posting but didn't find anything.
Apologies if linking to other forums is not appreciated.

It's an easy enough mod, though not sure you'd have space on a Nano version for the two pots(?) :)

Where are you based Wud?
If in the same area as myself, I can do it for you.

Cheers for the offer Nick,
I'm on the Sussex coast, so not too near you.

There seems to be just about room for the two extra pots, probably not ideal for people like me with sausage fingers!
There are a few pictures of succesfully modded Nano BassBalls in that TB thread I linked earlier.

I'm just keen to get more mileage out of the gear I allready have, as opposed to GAS'ing for more kit.

There is indeed enough space to put two pots on a Nano BassBalls, as I just had mine modded and hand delivered by the wonderfully talented Bigwan on this forum. He also did a great mod to my old Mini Q-Tron, putting a volume trim on the output of the effect to tame the volume bump those pedals have. Great guy, great mods.

Hi guys,

This is a great wee pedal after modding. Might have to get one myself or build one from scratch (there are a few extra mods I'd like to try but there's def not enough room in the nano to fit them all!). You need to use miniature pots for the mod though, and even then it's a VERY tight squeeze! I used 10k pots and removed the 4.7k series surface mount resistor from the circuit as suggested by someone (in French!) online. I think I'd try 5k pots next time as the lower end of the pot range doesn't seem to do very much - Gareth could maybe confirm that, I'm not much of an envelope filter user. It does allow you to totally turn off either filter though so maybe worthwhile depending on the application.

Only thing that really annoys me is that you can't quite line the new pots up with the existing one and the distortion switch, but then I'm a sucker for presentation!

Here's the pots I used for Gareth's pedal if anyone else wants to attempt the mod:

Ian
