Just signed up to Basschat - there's a lot of useful stuff in here, wish I'd found it earlier!

18 months ago I picked up the bass again after a 20 year layoff. I'm trying to do it right this time and am having lessons which are proving interesting, useful, confusing and hard in equal measure, but I think it's making me a better player than I was all those years ago. I live in Swindon and am practicing with some local guys but would like to get into a band with regular gigs at some stage soon. I have acquired 2 basses in the last year - a Mexican Fender Precision from e-bay which I like a lot (I had one in the past but had to sell it to buy a car to get to work) and a Crafter Jazz copy which surprisingly good to play considering the price. I picked up a second hand Peavey TNT 115 BW combo which has proved plenty loud enough so far, although I am still struggling to make sense of all the knobs and buttons on the front ("shelving" went on the wall and "chorus" was the bit between verses in my day!).

Looking forward to learning and contributing to the forums.

Hi Running Man and welcome :)

Yes - these 'modern' amps are a bit worrying, with all their bells and whistles. Back to B, M, T and Vol. So much easier.

IIRC, Fairport's Dave Pegg has been known to turn out with a Crafter, so you're in good company.
