AndyTravis
I'm not as bad as i used to be. I just buy stuff now, i don't sell it anymore. Everything i have does a bit of a different job. I work in a Guitar Shop, so i'm constantly on temptation... Look at it this way, a few of my mates pay £100s if not £1000s following football teams, a few spend £1000s on Snowboarding, and some buy expensive road bikes. If you enjoy the gear, then buy it. Clarky
Against the wise Beedster's advice, I would like to own a Sadowsky that I will inevitably sell on as I miss the good old Fender passive tones. This will also inevitably involve me losing money.

farmer61
My name is Julian and I have an addiction to GAS. I have to have 2 of everything to give me full redundancy, I could reduce the amopunt of kit I take to gigs by 50% if I really wanted to, in fact I'm a mobile spares shop for the band. I have bought 2 new basses in the last 2 months and already I'm developing the signs of where's my next bit of kit coming from. What I'd really like though is a Van for transporting my stuff that I can park straight back into the bat cave post gig. Mrs F isn't keen though which I feel is very unreasonable. My real problem is I suffer from impulse GAS, I'm have bought stuff I'm not sure I really want..... Is there any help out there??
nobodysprefect
I, being less than perfect, also suffer from GAS. I thought I was sorted when the Prima 6 arrived, but no, that only made it worse. To make use of someone's phrase earlier in the thread, I have literally lost count of how many instruments I've had. In the last 13 months alone, I have bought or traded for: Skjold custom series 6 fretted Skjold exotic cusom series 6 fretless Skjold pro series 5 Skjold custom series 5 Skjold custom series 4 Smith BSR6GN Smith BT6 Elite Smith BT6 TNV F-Bass BN6 F-Bass Studio 5 Pedulla MVP5 Pedulla MVP5 Ibanez BTB-like Custom Shop bass Others? Does anyone remember selling me their bass? Oh yes Fender 1979 Precision Rick Turner Electroline 5 Dingwall Z2 Dingwall ABII Music Man Bongo 5 And them 6-string soprano basses PRS 1991 Custom 24 Kramer Nightswan II Kramer flying V type Ibanez Universe UV777GR Ibanez S540 Limited Edition Ibanez Artist 2617 Gibson custom shop Wayne Charvel Peavey Mystic Greco 70's strat another Greco 70's strat Yamaha 70's strat And a guitar rack ADA MP1 with extensive non-ADADepot modding Rocktron Chameleon black face Rockman modules Rocktron power amp In my defense, I was on a buying spree last year mainly due to marital difficulties. 'feel bad' --> buy gear --> 'feel good' I've now tried to sell and trade off stuff to end up having 2-3 basses and an electric upright, and a rudimentary guitar setup. To think I was content for years with the Spector, Wal and F-bass bn6... Edited September 15, 2009 by nobody's prefect

wombatboter
Hi, my name is Russ, and I'm......addicted to Gear Aquisition Syndrome. I genuinely believe I'm addicted to the feeling of finding and aquiring new basses. I love the excitement of having a bass to trade, or better still cash in my pocket, and that few days of hunting for, and then choosing a new bass. Then, a few days later, the urge is back, and out goes the new bass, sometimes within days of getting it. My problem is I'm skint. All I have is my gear, so if I need to satisfy my cravings, I have to sell or trade out, something I've done endlessly over the last handful of years. It's always been (or so I thought) part of a search for "The One", that perfect bass that you yearn for. Trouble is, I've had some beautiful basses over the years, Overwater, Stingrays, Fenders and now the Kinal, which is the best of them all, and still, I get the urge to let it go to satisfy my craving for GAS, it's madness, and I'm driving myself crazy. I really believe, that if I was rich, I'd have dozens and dozens and dozens of basses, guitars etc etc, most of which I'd never touch, because I'd be always on the lookout for something new to satisfy the GAS. Anyone else want to stand up and confess their addiction too?
I completely understand...I've had more than hundred basses in and out the last couple of years. Sometimes I think to myself "it's been a while since I bought one" and it has only been two weeks before. I'm not joking : it is an addiction and I keep going back to numerous bass sites (even Ebay Australia) looking for that one thing which stops the search... but that doesn't exist. Fodera, Alembic, Wal, old Fenders..etc... Funny thing : you don't loose that much money since you pay with the money of your previous sale but you get rarely connected with a certain bass. sdgrsr400
My name is Francis and I am a serial instrumentalist. I have, either to hand, with a friend, or in storage, the following instruments acquired over 30 years playing, in approximately chronological order of learning: - grand piano - full-size midi keyboard - bass trombone - 2 x cello + 3 x bow - 2 x djembe - pair claves - small harmonium - a voice - Strat clone + Ibanez RGA121NTF guitars + practice/combo amps - Ibanez SR400 and Lakland 55-02 basses + Glockenklang/Acme rig - 3m of sheet music shelving Now, all I need is a drum kit and I can form a band...
