blaine
Im a younger bassist, but have been playing all my life and just want some more experienced musicians opinion. I play most everything, but my main genres I play are jazz, blues and classic rock. I'm playing an ibanez sr500, which pretty much does everything not badly, just not amazingly either and am planning on getting an ns design electric upright CR4 the next couple years for the jazz shows. so what im planning on getting is the markbass mark II marco limited edition 08 model for my head http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?...ited+Edition+08 and im running it through most likely either an avatar 2x10 or 2x12 cab http://www.avatarspeakers.com/ im on a budget of about a thousand dollars (US) any other small times ampilifier companies you know of that make good cabs for cheaper? any heads you think are amazing for the price? im willing to go over a thousand dollars a little if its the right amp. if anyone has any good suggestions, its much appreciated! thanks
chris_b
Hi, I assume you're in the US? You have access to a lot of gear that we don't and at much better prices. This is a punt at covering all your styles of music with the least gear. The LM2 would be good for everything, but in my opinion a Thunderfunk 550 is better. You could go for a 112 for the jazz and add another (112?) cab for the other types of music. I do this and add a 210 for the louder stuff. I've still got my 410 but it gets used less and less these days.
Mr.T
I have the same amp (MarkBass Marco LM2). Although it is not an amp to get overly excited about (IMO)... it certainly gets the job done! It sounds biased towards the very low mids (to my ears) and is VERY loud for its size. I run mine totally flat and use a Sansamp to get 'my' sound. blaine
thanks! I just saw some good reviews on it and wanted to know some peoples opinion on it. Ive heard about the thunderfunk 550 and its really hard to find. Ill keep looking. thanks for your opinion!
spacecowboy
Even though my Mark Bass head isn't the one in question i have to speak up for just how amazing Mark Bass amps are! i'd safely say you won't be disappointed with the unit if you decided to go with it! JTUK
It is a good amp, but depends how the $ rate transfers.. I would look at your Ag AG500 as your prices for that gear is great..at least from what we see. Not sure about the MB cabs so would agree that 12" cabs are looking good...and would allow you to get started with that rig and add another later...with a 500wt amp you shouldn't need more than 2.. With 2x10's used on its own, that is a lot of power you could hook it up with...and a hard driven 2x10 cab...er..be careful there...ditto a 1x12 .. This why I stick to 8ohms cabs mostly..it is a limiter of the output of the amp, effectively I use a 15 under 2x10 and it works great but the 15 packs more weight.. if the 2 1x12's cover the same sort of sound, I'll go that way.. For jazz gigs a single cab is fine, 90% of the time... blues and rock can require more, IMV I'd look at 2nd hand SWR and Eden amps... or even new.. The 350x is a great amp for the money.. for example.. I can't tell you about GB or GK ...sorry
Uncle Balsamic
The LMII scopes out as pretty much flat. Good head. Also, remember that when buying cabs, driver size means next to nothing really.
