Shockwave
Basically i have been wanting to be a lead vocalist for a long time. But i never had the voice for it. You see when my voice broke as a teen, it never fully repaired itself, the best i could ever do was death metal growls. Which i am pretty good at. But singing is a different kettle of fish i really struggle at basic things. So i have been practising for a couple of weeks at a few vocal covers of NOFX songs. Whilst playing bass. I know there are mistakes and i have noted what they are. However all I need to know is if its good enough to do it live without embarrasing myself. Obviously with more practice. But also remember it is a Punk style song. It doesant need to be fantastic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWP1aCyODUc Rob. waynepunkdude
Excellently played, I have played this live before and I didn't play it well as you did. You need to get a Danelectro Just out of interest why All His Suits are Torn? I've never thought SLATFATS is there best.

Thanks for the compliment, was that going for the vocal as well or are you politely ignoring it ;-) All His Suits are Torn, was THE FIRST rock style song that i ever liked. I was more into electronica way back when, but i used to skate alot as well. I bought this game. http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/160/160789p1.html Which had All His Suits are Torn, and the rest is history! It is also pretty easy to play basswise and vocally. I dont think i got the rythym in the song right. Its very plectrum centric. But i'll keep working on it! Cheers dude. Rob. BTW I saw NOFX do The Decline in full last year and f*** me is that man a great bass player.

I have alas never managed to find the time or place to see NOFX, i'll have to do it before they hang up their boots. I may have been more punk then i am now if the records were cheaper. Problem with releasing it through their own label, harder to charge a lower price for the records. I honestly dont know how Mike can play the very fast songs and sing at the same time. A big fat drunken machine.

Though i have honestly never heard their material before! Any ideas on what i should start on? I am really trying to find other bands and covers i could do. Looking at alot of Millencolin which is probably the only other punkish band i am a fan of. I will struggle alot with Ska influences though, no way am i doing vocals and a ska line! steve1879
Sounds good mate! Got to agree with Wayne, I've seen them a few times and they get better every time. It's like a gig and a comedy show in one, pure quality.
whimsy23
Pretty good man! I've heard many, many worser singers over the years, that's for sure. Your voice has a nice tone to it too, which is always handy. Bass playing wise, you'd need to do alt strokes rather than all down strokes. It is making you go slightly out of time on the faster parts. But you pretty much nailed it! I certainly wish I could sing without sounding like a mong. badgerific
Sounds pretty good to me, I think you sing better than me and I sing live for parts of our band's set. I think it would be easyer to give you critisisms if it was just you singing and nothing else (no bass or backing song). I hate singing while not playing myself so I'd find it hard. You do seem to stay in tune well though. I think the key is just practice, I've improved a fair amount lately just from singing along with songs. I'd suggest giving a few more a go, ones I find fun to sing and play which aren't too hard and of a similar style are: NOFX - Stickin in my eye, Bob and mabye Seperation of church and skate. Screeching weasel - Hey suburbia Bouncing souls - Manthem Jawbreaker - Boxcar If your interested in singing and playing ska stuff I'd start with the verses of Leftover crack - Gang control or Big D and the kids table - Wailing paddle as they're not too tricky.
