Annoying Twit
I have no direct experience. However, some time ago I noticed the Harley Benton Jazz bass was exceptionally cheap, the MB22-2T. However, the HC reviews were a bit off-putting. It seems the electronics were quite poor. This might not be a problem if your intention is to "pimp" the bass. The reviews that mentioned the basic wood and the hardware thought they were OK. Jean-Luc Pickguard
Why pimp when you can build? This looks like a fun way to spend just over £70 http://www.thomann.de/gb/layla_bassguitar_kit_pstyle.htm

lee4
I think its worth a punt.£86!If you spent another £80 on new pup's it would still be a bargain.
Cat Burrito
Harley Benton are of course Thomann's own brand. My only experience of there's is a Harley Benton acoustic that was so warped and had an action of an almost an inch at the 12th fret that it was basically good for firewood. Kind of off putting. JimBobTTD
I've been burned by dirt-cheap basses before. I'd steer away - to make it under a ton, some real corners have to have been cut.
bumnote
You have a money back guarantee with thomann try it and if ou dont like it send it back
Mr. Foxen
I love dirt cheap basses. Have managed to spend 6x the amount I paid the bass on new bits before though.
agoulding
The idea was, was to change all the hardware and electronics. Im thinking about a more expensive, squire as an alternative
The Burpster
My advice FWIW is start with the best platform that you can get. You might get an absolute peach but at £85 there is much higher probabality that it will be worth about £85 - The better the wooden bits the better the end result will be, this is from experience. 7string
That Harley bass is made of basswood, maple and rosewood, the same as Ibanez. Squire's have an alder body. As long as you're prepared for it not being perfect and accept that you're going to do a lot of work on it what's not too like! If I was looking for a cheap P bass, it's something I'd definitely consider (probably use eBay or similar to get cheaper replacement parts). agoulding
I think, im better off getting a aquire of something. I know the vintage mod jazz basses are good but what about the precisions?
