I've just been given one of these for free. Its a bit knocked about and has new machine heads, but seems nice enough. Easy to play, easier than the Dean 5 string I have. There is a bad crackle coming from somewhere though, Im guessing the pickups?

Anyone had one/got one. Im guessing it was an entry level guitar from the early 90s?

Looks identical to the cheap Encore my brother bought in the mid 90's, probably made in the same factory!

I had one of those.

It was from 1988. At the time indeed one of the cheaper basses by Yamaha, but they're still amazing instruments!

The buzz might be coming from a screw or something. Try holding some parts while the bass is buzzing.

FREE!! You lucky swine:) My first bass back in '84ish was a BB30, I swapped it with a friend for a Westone Thunder III which I defretted. My friend still has the Yammy, the Westone has long gone. Give the pots a good clean out with some switch cleaner.

Cool, glad to see its better regarded than I was expecting. The buzzing is definetley electrical, so I give it all a good clean up.
Mine is gloss black with horrible black plastic knobs. That white one looks a lot smarter with the chrome hardware.

Not bad for a freebie then!
