Pete Academy
I finally gave up on BPM. I usually take it off the shelf and pay for it, but this time I leafed through...nothing to interest me - almost 5 quid saved.
davidmpires
I did that with Bass Guitar Magazine this month. Although I love Spectors and I find Doug interesting, there wasn't much more there for me.
niceguyhomer
Is it me or do others find more interesting literature and illustrations on the top shelf?

This place has better info than the bass mags, and there is much better free porn out there than you'll find hiding on the top shelf of WHsmiths. I do miss the interviews though, although they did tend to become very generic. Now I spend my toilet time reading bios instead.
Bilbo
Study music not musicians. Biographies and magazines are not all they are cracked up to be. They create the illusion that you need to do this or that to get good, that you need this gear to play that or that gear to play this. Read 'em for two years and you have got pretty much all that you can get out of them. Save the money and get some music theory books. AdamWoodBass
I've given up on bass mags, the content just started to get less and less interesting and before I knew it I was stood in Borders thumbing through Bassplayer and BGM and I might as well have been reading NME. I used to have a subscription to Bassplayer years ago but I cancelled it when I used to pay for 12 issues and get maybe 4 half decent ones. I also noticed that the mags got much thinner but stayed the same price.... hmmmm!
Doddy
I still like Bass Player. There have been some fairly week issues lately, but they still cover some good players. This month isn't too bad really-Patitucci,Rufus Reid,Miroslav Vitous-that's a pretty decent line up,I think. And a Jimmy Johnson Transcription to boot. It's still the best mag for me. I'm guessing that the Funk lesson video will be put up in the next week or so,the current lessons on the website are from the September issue.
