alexclaber
That other thread got me thinking about this. Don't just give us the name of the song, we need to hear it - post a recording! Alex

john_the_bass
probably love twist the gift - that can be found on our myspace - www.myspace.com/27brigade Mirrors For Eyes and Kings Of New Walk are alright too and you can find them here on last.fm - might have to listen to a few. I always think the drumming is about the best thing on most of our stuff edit: and chelsea boy - oh f*ck it, i think they're all good!!!! hahahahah another edit: they're not on bloody last.fm either, i'll have to do some looking into that Edited September 25, 2007 by john_the_bass
alexclaber
This is definitely one of my favourites: http://www.thehumanzoo.com/alex/Demo%20EP%...Song%20Pt.1.m4a (Note, this is a pre-release mix, ignore the rough edges and lack of mastering!) theosd
I'm sure the bass line for 'That Guy' at the beginning and somewhere in the middle is one of my best, just wish I'd have seen it then I woulda made it more of a feature of a different song! The rest of that song is pretty embarassing, though, in terms of the singing. The music's all good though!: http://www.myspace.com/ukunderthethumb The line I'm most happy with in my current band is probably the one for Around For - simplicity always wins through, and people tend to dance to this song more than any other, a true sign of bass success!: http://www.myspace.com/aliquotflow Hope you liiike. ped
Brilliant stuff, realy good fun listening to everyones clips. I guess my fave so far is enjoyable because of its simplicity. I origionally hacked it out on Piano but it worked on the fretless so well that we wrote a track around it. Check it out here or at my Myspace Cheers ped
ped
John_the_bass - really enjoyed your tunes, they have a really 'up for it' mix! I agree the bassline is really good - the linchpin under some fairly psychedelic noises from the 6 stringer. It gives the song a real drive. Alex - nice anticipated but laid back feel to that one. The bass sounds great also, nice and tight. It is the kind of bassline one can shuffle down the street to ;0) theosd - 'That Guy' - Another tidy and driving bassline! It has kind of a disco groove to it which is pretty tasty. It sounds like the bass mixes in well with the guitar and drum sounds. I found the bass harder to pick out from the other tune because it was, like you say, nice and simple, it fills the space well. I should imagine in a non compressed non - myspace format it really warms things up. Tasty.

It's no lie that the myspace player does it no favours as an individual channel, but the richness of the overall sound is good too. I've come a long way since the Under The Thumb stuff, most of that is just funky noodling compared to the more crafted stuff I'm doing now with Aliquot Flow. Nice tone on the torrential song (is that a fretless?). Not sure if it's the myspace player, but at times the track seems to go out of synch with itself? Or is that intentional? Merton
Some nice playing on here, I'm not posting links of anything I've done coz I always get the final mix back and hate everything I've done, mostly coz it's awful (in my opinion). Hopefully the new EP will fix that coz I've calmed down a lot of lines. But you'll have to wait for that coz we're nowhere near having it finished!! Actually, with my old band InSoFar, I am happy with the basslines in "The Fall" and "Drowning". But you can't find em easily online, sigh. bassbloke
Without Cause My Myspace has a couple of tracks by my old band Without Cause. The band was a total departure from anything I'd done previously and have done since. Just a good fun alt rock/metal trio and I had a blast writing basslines for it all and gigging. SJA
I'm quite proud of the bassline on "equilibrium" here- http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=502278 although I had trouble with the drummer's sloppiness. gypsymoth
I don't know if it'll flick anybody's switch, but it's a monster. poorly played and recorded anarchy on bass, about the L.A. riots. track 4 below, when dreamland burned. Dood
There's some cool basslines here! nice one! I'm going to be a bit lazy actually and just tell you about just 2 on my Website. (Yes, I should upload something new.. sorry!) go here http://www.danveall.co.uk/media.htm But I like these. The first is called 'I Want The World'. Pretty much the whole bass line is tapped. Especially the intro as you can hear. I think the bassline is actually more visually interesting than what you hear in the mix. The verses feature a rolling three note motif, but is tapped in octaves. (thats not an octaver, thats 6 finger tapping baybee! lol lol) (you can hear the motif briefly at the end of the intro too) The breakdown also features a typical Sheehan/Myung octave tapped pedal too. The second I'd like to share is 'Psycho'. More chops than a butchers shop!! We sat there in a very 'blurred' state (lol) dropping notes off of bars and making things difficult for ourselves! Look out for the bass, guitars and keyboards all sweeping in unison after the keyboard solo. Other tracks I really like are 'No Solution' with a cool 5/4 groove that later modulates to 4/4 but still has the same groove and 'Broken Dreams' which I think has my favourite all time guitar / keyboard solo, over more time changes than I care to mention, in about 30 seconds! check it out! I really hope you like them!

wotnwhy
my favorite bassline is the song Soul/Testify. the line in the verse is very very simple, but it's the way me and the guitarist Q&A that makes it for me. and i just love playing the chorus! the other one is Part Time Lover. we wanted a slow, soulfull number, but something a bit out of the ordinary. so decided the game plan was to have very melodic music, yet keep the overall sound quite empty and sparse (much harder than it sounds!). and because it's quite a busy and melodic line. yet isn't too overpowering, i really dig it. the pieces can be check out here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=176145
deksawyer
The one that comes to me is around 17 years old at least, when I was thin, had hair and was in an indie pop outfit...... Westone Thunder 1A and a Fender BXR300 combo. Bloody fantastic. Simple stuff, but effective imo. bottomfeed
well.... you know how it is... sometimes there's no choice but to 'flick ur own switch' ....of an evening I like the chorus in 'Beautiful monster' ..it ended up so off the wall! http://www.myspace.com/tornondesire & maybe I'll stick 'Pilgrim' up there, great fun to play live... What I don't like is punters coming up & banging on about the slap in 'Good foundation' ..."great playing man, really reminds me of mark king, man... ooh I do love mark king!".... It has nothing in common with Mark King!... whatsoever... other than it's struck with a thumb..... but I say "thanx man!"... coz I wanna be polite... & not throw it back in their faces.... rant, rant! just listening to Ped's '2006'.... very cool!!
