Am I developing a style...

I've been playing the bass for about 3 years now having played the guitar for about 15 years on and off.

I've noticed that when I'm playing with my cover band I'm sliding into bass lines - a classic example which springs to mind is Never Tear Us Apart - as the bassline comes in I'll slide during the drum fill as a kind of lead-in.

Is this a common practice or is it more of an amateur thing to do?

I don't think it hurts. I used to do it a bit. I don't really now. If you do it too much it will become a bit too much of a "oh, here we go again" but depending on the song & the style of music you do, it's not a problem.

I don't think this counts as a "style". Your current band might like this "trick" but the next might not. The best plan is to do what fits but not to over do it.

It's not really a style thing.
The problem with sliding into the line is that it can lose the impact of the first note,and it could
annoy the drummer if you are doing it over his fills.
Try to get out of the habit and only use it if you find it necessary,that way when you
do slide into it it will sound better.
