Rayman Posted September 27, 2009 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Loads of you must have acquired some nice objects over the years, autographed Cd's, drum sticks thrown from the stage etc, I just wondered what your favourite items are? Like most people, I've met plenty of celebs over the years, usually outside a venue, Jeff Beck, David Byrne, Mick Jones etc etc, but by far my most treasured item is a denim jacket signed by The Ramones in 1986. I met them at a record store signing in Nottingham prior to the gig at Rock City that night. I'd seen them at the Manchester Apollo the night before, and I'd been right at the front, in front of Johnny. I waited in the queue to get an autograph, but when I got there I realized I'd got nothing for them to sign. So off came my Denim Jacket, and they happily signed it for me. The best bit, was when Johnny looked at me and said he'd seen me the night before in Manchester down at the front, I had a grin on my face for days. That night at the Rock City they were just awesome. Johnny played Warthog and chucked his plectrum into the audience, I flattened anyone else trying to get it and managed to find it in the dark. But what I like most is Marcus Miller's signature on my bass. He gave a masterclass at the conservatory where I study. I knew the guy who had organized the whole thing. Marcus seemed to have had some problems at the Dutch customs with his bass, so it hadn't arrived yet. The organizing guy game running to me: "Do you have a bass with you?!" "Yes, why?" "Is it a Jazz Bass?" "Yeah, it's my Blade. Why?" "Can Marcus borrow it?" "Errr...sure!" He didn't use it... he could borrow another bass that was a Fender, he told me afterwards, and since he didn't know Blade he used the Fender. So, of course, I said: "Do you want to have a go on it now?" And he said: "Yeah, of course!" Pictures of Lily transcription signed by Pete Townsend and the Ox. And the ultimate for me the May 1989 Football programme between Liverpool and Arsenal signed by all the Arsenal and Liverpool players on the day must be worth a few bob now! RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted September 27, 2009 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I suppose it has to be this stuff from when I met Metallica back in'85 in Shades records . I was working up the road from there ,and expected them to pitchup around midday. It was the longest lunch hour I had,(could've been sacked). They didn't arrive till around 4pm. Met Cliff,who was way cool. I bought the poster in the shop,but the test pressing cost me about £1.50 from a stall in Camden market where I used to always go most weekends. Also met a group from Hsatings who became my friends for a few years.. Sold on flea bay , was gonna pay bills ..but put it towards my Tele Bass Met Lars and James in Duke of Cornwall pub after watching metal band(can't remember who) Lars signed the sweatshirt,which ended up in the washing machine by mistake As for Alice, he was a miserable ****.(I suppose seeing that he nearly died at that wembley gig I was at ,may have played on his mind somewhat) There are others (Schenker, Billy Sheehan, Stu Hamm) but at the time I never realised how big Metallica would be Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a hand-written 3-page letter from Mark King, circa very early 80s, just after the Level 42 album came out. Level 42 headed paper and hand-drawn graphic equaliser settings. He was huge in those days, akin to someone writing to The Stones or similar. lThe Level 42 one was different. They were an up and coming band, and I was obsessed with Mark. I wrote to him asking how he got his sound. His ketter was really detailed, with drawings of his graphic Eq settings. It was really personal. I've also found a signed christmas card from The Stranglers. I was a member of the SIS (Stranglers Info Service) many years ago when Sarah Perrin ran it. I was in a band back then called SideFX, and sent her a poster and a demo. They had the poster on the wall in the office apparently. I recieved a card from them that christmas. Billy Sheehan's autograph. Had a very brief chat with him after a bass clinic he done Doom Legend Wino's autograph on a Spirit Caravan CD booklet Fully autographed copy of Motorhead's "Motorizer" album as well. Some brilliant stuff on here I'm gonna get so slated for some of this I have a couple of picks from Kip Winger, Paul Gilbert, Phil Collen, Marco Mendoza and probably forgot a couple of others. Like [b]Rayman[/b} I have a cool jacket. Billy Sheehan signed it at a clinic at the Bass Centre. I had it signed again by him and the rest of the band did a signing at Tower Records, London. My boss let me have a really long lunch hour as I said that I'd have to line up and wait my turn. My Mum added Mr.Big himself to the back and went over the sigs in thread. I also have Kip Winger's painted leather jacket from "The Heart of the Young" tour. I bought it while he was auctioning some stuff from his site. Some time later, he had another auction which included his Jackson basses. A mate of mine told me about it a month after it had ended. Cheers mate... Kip also signed my Jackson KW bass at a gig in London. It looked great until I polished the bass and wiped it clean off. So much for permanent marker. My favourite memorabilia is a tape which has my signing lesson with Kip Winger on it. I went up to him after a gig in London and asked what he did to warmup before the show. He said to come early the next day and he'd show me. So I've got a good half hour of him teaching me how to breathe and so on. At one point he says "you're pretty good already", a proud moment. All of this wouldn't have any meaning, but Mr.Big have reunited and have a live DVD and CD set coming out. Winger's new album "Karma" hits the shop in early October. I've also got a Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Transcription book signed by the band.
