Ha! I didn't know I had any licks to steal. Go ahead, take them!

Apart from vague physical similarities (glasses, facial hair, receding hairline? Possible Scandinavian lineage!??!), I'm flattered to be even mentioned in the same breath as Marlowe. The man is a legend of YouTube, whose work I cannot fault. By comparison my playing is sloppy and I butcher my way through the odd cover. :)

I got my first bass 10 years ago as of tomorrow (was in New York for Christmas, it was a very basic Ibanez from Manny's). It was nearly as big as me at the time, and somewhere there exists a cringeworthy picture of me with said bass.
I recently found some very dark footage of the band i was in for a while playing Paul Weller's songs.

Just a couple of tracks as its all pretty boring (and im mostly in the shadows).
That was great, really enjoyed it.

Wow - brilliantly played! one of my favourites too - my ambition is to be able to play this song one day, but I don't think I'll be playing when I'm 80 years old somehow! - it'll take me that long to get there! :) I'm pretty ancient now and only just started playing bass

Sorry I have nothing to post! :)

Nice one. I enjoyed that. I also really like your version of Dead Ringer.

It might be my eyes (and the fact that its monday morning) but the AR looks off.

I've posted my admiration for your playing before, but now i am wondering what your recording method is for these clips, the mix of your bass over the tune is good, but I still cant believe how great the tone of your bass is just coming through my standard Mac speakers, most clips on you tube don't have a tone like that

From his YT page

"I use a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface, running into Logic Pro. The video is done in iMovie. The whole thing is done on my crappy old MacBook Pro"

I agree, great tone and great playing, but i have a feeling its all in the fingers.

Apologies but what is the "AR" lol
Sorry, I mean aspect ratio. You all look a bit tall and thin, or to use the technical term, squashed up.

I also add a bit of compression, and I EQ the bass (and sometimes the track) ever so slightly - usually to eradicate any boominess. If that's a word.

And that would be my short answer. :)

I understand the feeling is in the fingers part, but there is something about the way you record it, as I said it the tone is great through my mac speakers, and that cant be said for all clips, regardless of the talent in the fingers for the guy (or girl) playing

Hello! A friend took some video of us at our last gig in O'neils - Liverpool on Sunday, so I thought I'd stick them up here...

Bear in mind, this is probably my 6th gig ever and I'm still pretty nervous, I was just trying to keep it solid, no flair whatsoever!

Anyone else find it weird seeing yourself on video? I've noticed that I have this horrible smirk on my face most of the time, stand like a right weirdo and make silly facial gestures to people I know in the crowd?! I must smile more!

I also enjoyed those.

I do find it quite shocking how bored i look in some of our live videos. I guess i know i am but im always surprised it comes across to the audience as well.
Must try harder this year to smile.
