Heres a video of me playing a funky version of summertime on double bass.

Its really just my bands music video, but i do play in it too. The bass is mixed a little low for my tastes, so it isn't as prominent as it should be. Gear was a Squier Jazz Deluxe V, Mids on full, bass and treble flat, Ernie Ball Slinkies, fingerstyle. Through a either an RME Fireface or Focusrite OctoPre (Not sure which) and IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX.

For anyone who hasn't seen this in the Recordings forum - a new little ditty from me - just beginning work on some new originals - this is kind of work in progress, hope you dig:

In rehearsals last week:

Good grief, that was awful. I love Depeche Mode but this was not the 'Blasphemous Rumours' I was expecting or hoping for.

Mike, the funky new tune above this post is great. The Sei sounds nice as ever.

Oh well, a negative reaction is better than no reaction! :)

AFAIK, other than the title, the only real similarity to the Depeche Mode song is the synth part in the intro. I was actually unaware of the Depeche Mode song until a few days ago so I had no idea we were destroying a timeless classic. :)

Thanks Chris - the Sei is the gift that keeps on giving... it really is a wonderful bass - works for so many things - cheers for the feedback

I also initially thought it would be some sort of cover of the DM song...I don't really hear it, and I can't say the style of music is one for me, but you guys did create something that's yours and performed it with good energy. And you have a good bass sound!

I had another rehearsal with these guys yesterday and asked about the origins of the song. The guy who wrote it said he wasn't consciously influenced by the DM song, but at some point he noticed a vague similarity, hence the title. Nothing else to it really!

Glad you could see some positives, despite not liking the style. :)

Did videos for these two this afternoon. It was only when I was uploading them I realised they were both recorded in 1979. Neato.

What were you hoping for, a lame copy cover?

I thought it was ok. But not my CoT.

That's alright man! It's way too USA teen punkpop for my taste but it's good. Your bass has no tone that will cut through so I'd look at your eq closely. You need more low-mid mids I reckon. Good stuff.

My tone is actually quite mid heavy, just the producer didn't give me the exact tone i wanted, and seemed to have mixed the bass a little low. I wasn't there when we first listened through it either as i was working, so i couldn't bring it up. He has told me that he's remastering it when he gets chance though, so it might be better 2nd go round.

Video from our most recent gig, thanks to my wife for taking the camcorder along :)

Probably not obvious from the video but the bass is my Gibson IV through a Hartke HA3500.

I'd barely even heard anything by them until a couple of weeks ago either! On a mission to find some more now. :)

that P-sound is the ultimate goal.

It is, isn't it! Don't think I've quite got it yet though.

I am quite suprised i've not heard of them before as I really love funky stuff, but this band seemed to have passed me somehow, by so i've been checking out some of their stuff.
I can recommend the track "Glide" (great bass) and also "Future Now" (great bass and guitar solo) Both of those tracks plus "Universal" are all from the album Future Now found here;
