matt_citizenbass Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 i basically want to sound like Kurt Ballou ( guitarist fom converge) but on bass. preferably not really expensive. Preferably no bass loss. i want a pedal that also feedsback nicely as apposed to squeal annoyingly which my current distortion does right now. no fuzzes. I play a lot of chords and i need the sound to be still detailed but heavy as hell. has anyone got any pedal recomendations? cheers, Matt Quote

Matt, it it in key squealing, or microphonic? Might not be fault of your distortion. Quote
nash Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 get some EMGs get an orange 200ab and 8x10 then get a marshall super lead and a marshall bass 4x12 then run both on full Quote
nash Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Can't edit on phone. regarding the superlead have all controls on full. and the orange with a lot of bass and mid Quote
Happy Jack Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 See if you can have a play with a DHA VT2. Set Ch.1 and Ch.2 to max gain, max boost. Then stomp on Ch.1 -> Ch.2. Then go look for your teeth. Quote
nash Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Buy the JCM800 no master volume that hatori is selling on here. Quote
vegas_hooker Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Lots of valve heads and plenty of mids. Quote

matt_citizenbass Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 [quote]Matt, it it in key squealing, or microphonic? I guess it could be my single jazz pickup? in terms of tone. I'm not keen on valve amps, i've had a soundcity 120B and its lovely but not exactly for me. Plus i use about 30% clean sound so i need to have that of being able to go back to crisp and delicate... if ya get me.... a DHA has always appealed to me, how far gain can they go? would anyone care to share some soundclips? Lfalex v1.1 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Not familliar with the artist/s you referenced, but I found that a Wah pedal kicked nearly all the way back (adjust to taste) and left there (Frank Zappa use to do it IIRC) works well for the BIG bottom . Pop it in your signal chain after your distortion pedal for some seriously heavy stuff. Quote

Leads and wiring can also do it. With a DHA, you can cram another signal boost before it to really drive the nuts off it, not sure it will do what you are after though. Quote
nash Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 kurts live tone is a marshall jmp 50watt cranked with the pedal we discussed when needed. most of the od is power valve. a pedal really won't do it. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Why not just get a multi-effects pedal with all the bells and whistles etc. Some of these can give you serously ott sounds with loads in reserve... Quote

JHBASS Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I'd always stick with my standard USA reissue Big Muff. Whack everything up to full, and strike a note! Earthquake-worthy sound wave! Ive made a review on it, which can be found in the review section on the forum. Cheers, Josh Quote
Finbar Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Get a valve amp and crank it, and have something super clean and crisp, and get a switcher so you only have one engaged at once Quote
lemmywinks Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Have you tried putting one pedal in front of another? I switched in the OD on my MXR M80 with my Mastotron still on and it sounded immense! Although you said no Fuzzes, one of my favourite pedals is my Danelectro Black Liqourice. If the octave switch was a footswitch and it didn't hum so much it'd be perfect, it's the heaviest sound i've had and the octave down is great on the A string and above. £12 posted from eBay too Quote

nash Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 now i understand. just to add, this is the best Today, I was talking and joking with my boyfriend. He said "Hey wanna hear a joke?" I said "Yes." He said, "Our relationship." and walked away. He seriously dumped me through a one-liner. FML Quote
