mikegatward
Been on the look out for a decent precision and have been offered this MIJ one. Serial number dates it 1984-1987 from fuji-gen factory Not seen one like it before with the black headstock so wondered if anyone knew about these
lemmywinks
Looks like an early P Bass Lyte without the later contours. Musky
The Contemporary Series used to have painted headstocks and the grey logos. Couldn't tell you if that is one though.

yorick
Preceision Lyte neck, but the body doesn't look like a Fender. Top horn is too small?
xilddx
Agree, doesn't look right at all that body.
Cat Burrito
I remember those when they were out originally
mikegatward
Think I might look elsewhere - £450 looks steep for something so difficult to identify
lee650
The body looks wrong to me, the horns are similar to the old lyte basses, but no! looks like a mongrol to me, i,d avoid especially at that price, much better MIJ alternatives have been available for less money!! - LEE
Marky L
I have exactly the same as this. I have not tracked it down as a specific model version (the Contemporary option sounds worth a follow up). I certainly do not believe it is a mongrel. The neck is wide, I forget what I measured it at but it's def a C. I find it a very playable bass and it has a great sound and look. £450 is a bit steep IMHO but I certainly worth investigating further. I replaced the bridge on mine as the original was very corroded and I put black control knobs on too and I think it looks sweet. Oh and I haven't taken the PUPs out, but they do have very large pole pieces, almost like SD Quarter Pounders. Looking at your pic, I'd say they are what was fitted originally. Don't have any good pics to post, but you can see from this one when I was gigging it that it's the same.
