tischbein
Anyone ever have one of their basses defretted... I mean a good job, no home-made crap.
noelk27
Yea - G&L L2000 and Aria SB900. Both done by local luthiers. Both excellent jobs. But it's no guarantee that you'll get what you envisaged. One of these projects was more successful than the other.

Rich
[quote name='tischbein' post='613048' date='Sep 30 2009, 03:45 PM']Anyone ever have one of their basses defretted... He did a beautiful job, as you'd expect from a good luthier. The bass has worked out very nicely, plenty of mwah. It has a rosewood board, so I've tried to avoid too much wear by putting some nice slippery Elixirs on. I can't stand the feel of flats. bh2
I had the frets stoned down to the tangs on my Jazz... so it looks like a metal lined fretless... 'cept a couple have fallen out!

If you do intend to remove the fret wires yourself, then you should mask the touchboard with micropore tape, to protect the wood, before heating the wires and carefully teasing the wires from the fret slots. Heating the fret wires helps to break the bond between the seating glue and the wire/wood.
