Doc B Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Inspired by Clarky's In Praise of.. thread: I was wondering about songs by bands you don't like or even songs that you don't like but that have basslines that you think are great. She Don't Love Me Like you by Magic Numbers is one example for me. I really don't like the band or even the song but I really enjoy that bassline. MOP's Cold as Ice is another (although that is no doubt a sample or synth). I also don't like the Smiths (Morrissey's voice just grates) but Andy Rourke is brilliant, almost enough for me to consider getting some of their music. Quote
steve Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Quite a lot of Abba songs have really nice basslines, but the rest of the music :pukey smiley: Quote
burno70 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 When the going gets tough by Billy Ocean - song sucks but great bass line. Quote
chris_b Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Many Motown albums were full of fillers. Great playing but not so great song writing! Quote
Rayman Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Red Hot Chilli Peppers for me. I actually love the rhythm section (Flea & Chad), but I can't stomach Anthony Kiedis's vocals and I'm not keen on John Frusciante's sound either. Quote
3V17C Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Jimmy Nail - 'Ain't no doubt' - sooo cheesy but quality bass work c Quote

rasher80 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 +1 for Ain't No Doubt. The bass line is ace. She's lyin' Quote
Bilbo Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Most of James Jamerson's work. Great lines, beautifully executed and then surrounded by bubblegum sung by 12 year-olds, tuneless whelps and trashy girlbands. Quote
Adrenochrome Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 A couple of songs by Moloko have good basslines but are average songs eg 'Familiar Feeling'. Quote
bluesparky Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited)
'Waterfalls' by TLC
Ooh yeah, good call - i love playing that track, nice work out for the wah in the intro too! Edited October 1, 2009 by bluesparky Quote
bluesparky Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 The ultimate for this is "i don't know how to love him" by Yvonne Elliman, a serious guilty pleasure!!!!! Quote
Zombywoof Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Footloose - Kenny Log-in, has a fantastic bassline in it but I can't stand the song. Wake me up before you go-go by Wham is another one. Quote
