Hi, some of you may have seen I have a lefty Stingray up for sale in the classifieds.

I love the tone of it, but have always found the neck a tad too fat for comfort for my hands. I grew up on a Jazz and playing a neck that's thin at the nut just feels more natural to me.

I was wondering, as an alternative to getting rid of my Singray, if anyone had any suggestions for another solution - maybe getting an aftermarket neck that would bolt on in place of the original? Has anyone done this with a Stingray before? Are there any UK luthiers who might be able to help me out?

Would love to hear any suggestions!

I also considered this a while back. Rob Green at Status makes a standard stingray neck that has a flatter profile on the back, therefore giving the impression of a slimmer neck. He will also do a stingray neck with the same nut width as a Jazz (similar to a sterling) but he will add extra to the cost, £50 I think it was

You could always get a Sterling

Perhaps you could get a luthier to shave the neck down for you, so long as you don't need too much taken off the depth. I should imagine shaving one down to a Jazz width would be well within the capabilities of most decent luthiers. Probably won't be cheap though...

Hi,
I see you're based in Devon, so a trip to Mansons in Exeter may get it sorted. They will do most things, (depending on budget of course). Whenever I've asked about mods or having anything built, Hugh Manson's response is 'you hum it, I'll build it'. Looking at some of his creations I think this rings true!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'd rather not have the existing neck modified, as that'll kill any future resale value and I know genuine MM necks are like hen's teeth. I'd happily swap for a Sterling, or indeed some other bass, but nobody is biting yet in the classifieds! :)
