Balcro
the series one stuff is terrible. why would anyone make a 200 watt valve guitar amp? also do you me mott as in mott the hoople? when i saw them he was using an SVT 2 clean as a whistle and he use the blackstar 30 watters for his baritone
Why not. I wouldn't say no to 200w of valve amp. Yes, Mott as in Mott the Hoople. I guess you saw them at the Monmouth warm-up gigs. By the time they got to Hammersmith, I couldn't see any Ampeg gear. OW appeared to be using the Blackstar separates. Couldn't tell if he or Verden Allen was using the adjacent twin Ashdown stacks. VA also had twin Leslies. All 3 basses sounded really driven. One of my favourite bands, Cave-In, use a P Bass/Grabber (I think, im not too hot on Gibson basses) with a Sunn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c73UEu-NF_Q...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNPYU36bB28 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=280KmSDIx7I...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rbyvAx1mzY...feature=related Not sure if they still do, (not sure if they are still together!) Some Marshall Bass amps on those live UK vids. Basically, I want to play in a dirty heavy rock band with hardcore influences...lots of bass runs and cranked tubes. Guitaist would not be allowed any of this ESP stuff...
Still together; http://planetsofold.com/ Caleb doesnt drive his amps too hard that I could always tell. I much prefer lower wattage guitar amps so you get them to their sweet spot easier.

nash
some times i just couldn't find 'the tone'. especially when using an ashdown abm 8x10. those things are dire. too compact and the drivers are poor. sweet amp though. i'd probs get an ampeg 8x10 if i had one again. Then im off to ask them to make the coolest looking amp ever....simple as that. Has to be ridiculous, dirty, and full of awesome tone
Finbar
Saying all this, I was very close to "Glassjaw tone" tonight. Bit more tweaking and I might be able to have that epic sound just using what I've got!
Musicman20
One thing to think about, which swayed me massively with the Ampeg SVT CL, is that its 4 ohms. I dont always use a 4 Ohm cab!
Finbar
I have two 4 ohm cabs, so that isn't a problem. Being 2 ohm stable would be a bonus, but not expected.
vegas_hooker
I guess jumping on the orange band wagon is pretty popular lately but if you want to hear one of the AB200 in action head over to Converge's Myspace. Their new album is streaming and its littered with awesome valve grind.

Finbar
I'm speechless. The ported 4x10 I tried at Matamp last week with the GT200 was good, but really woofy and boomy with what I was trying to do. So I went back today and tried it through a sealed 4x10 Jeff had just built. It was better, but still not what I was looking for. Then we whipped out my Schroeder 1212L. It wasn't as loud as one of the Matamp 4x10s (on the lowest drive setting, we had the master volume on full and it would have been almost acceptable as a clean sounding practice amp), but OH MY DEAR LORD. The sound was incredible. When we turned the drive up a notch or two and messed with the EQ, we got tight, focused, mid heavy valve grind which cleans up when you back off your attack or volume... And it wasn't too loud to rehearse or gig with! I could have almost have been listening to the original bassist from Glassjaw when I heard what sound I was making. Turned to my friend who'd come with me, also a Glassjaw fan, and he just smiled. A lot. Absolutely nailed that EYEWTKAS tone dead. I NEED that head Me and Stu also dubbed the Matamp factory the Matcave while we were there, after seeing the personalised numberplate MA7 4MP on the van outside, and deciding that it was definitely the Matmobile Edited October 23, 2009 by Finbar
