dangee Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I need to go into a recording studio but don't want to be connected to my cabs. Can I go from bass to pedalboard to amp (Little Mark II) and DI from the amp to the desk without having any speakers connected to the head? Cheers, Dan Quote
danlea Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 You might want to try just DI'ing without your amp in that case, and getting your sound with a good plugin or outboard EQ. Remember the settings you're using on the amp are used for your cabinet setup and are quite probably way off for direct recording (I understand the DI on the amp is set to post-EQ and can only be changed internally?). If you can't get the sound you want, then try it through your amp. In any case, you may find a pure DI sound to be a bit too clinical, depending on your music of course. Quote
Tengu Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Talk to the studio, they will have a DI that you can connect your pedal board to at the very least. Chances are that they will have some kind of bass preamp as well so that you can play with EQ etc to get closer to your usual sound. Not having to drag your amp head to the studio is bliss. Quote
dangee Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I have a DI box on my board (the Sadowsky outboard pre) but I use that more as an eq boost when slapping. Sounds like an opportunity to buy a Markbass Super Booster. Use the Sadowsky as the basic tone and throw the Markbass in front of it to boost as and when. Quote

Take the Markbass with you just in case. I find it's only my passive Fender Jazzes that sound good through standard DIs. The Warwicks need a preamp of some kind to get the best out of them. Quote
