tom1946
Hey how are you all? I'm looking to buy an amp/combo to use in a church. Now churches, even a lively one like ours has a few quiet moments in it so my current amp, a Kustom KBA 100 isn't the best if you put even a slight amount of gain on. It's a bit lifeless with no gain at all. I know I could just shut the gain off every time I sit down but it's a faff on doing that. Are there any quietly powerful amps out there with maybe an ability to just flick a switch to silently kill it while things like prayers and readings are going on? I am a fairly new player so any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

richardd
Hi. You can use any amp that has a Mute switch, problem solved
lemmywinks
Or a pedal tuner, most will mute the signal when tuning. What's it like with the volume on the bass down? I assume your getting hum/hiss from the amp
wateroftyne
Am I right in thinking that the Class D stuff doesn't buzz?
sdgrsr400
Gotta bear in mind that some powerful bass amps have cooling fans which can be heard in really quiet surroundings. In a typical gig it would be lost in the wall of sound, but your context may be different. Just something to be aware of before making a final decision. TheBlueFalcon
What about using something like this.... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=220693 You can use any amp/combo you like then. Pedals exist to do the same thing with your bass, most rack mount compressors also include a noise gate and/or downward expander.
tom1946
Thanks for all the replies, I haven't been well so a bit slow. It seems I have the easiest and cheapest solution... a floor tuner! Why the heck didn't I twig that :doh I'll have a try and see if that'll do it. Damn, I was looking for an excuse to get a valve head :lol

I use mine in church without any trouble and it sounds superb. You can even unplug the lead from the input without any noise. tom1946
Hi Stevie, thanks for that. Never heard of them but they look very compact so I'll do some research and see where we end up. They are currently £750 at guitar guitar in newcastle :shock Do you have the extension cab? would I need it?

sk8
I use a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T Combo at my church. I don't think there is a better amp for this purpose!
Finbar
A pedal tuner will not make your amp silent if it is noisy. It will simply kill the noise of everything before the tuner in your chain, which sounds like it may just be your bass. If the amp is noisy, it will still be noisy. The cheapest solution would be to turn the amp off when it isn't in use I'm afraid!
