Jean-Luc Pickguard
On the old dudepit there was a plan for a bunch of members there to get bach to build a batch of vintage style non-reverse thunderbird copies using measurements from one owned by a forum member. I was following the progress, but the forum disappeared, so I have no idea whether it came to anything. The bach site is http://www.bachmusik.com/en/c100008/bass-guitar/ Never seen one of their instruments, but they look pretty good for the prices considering that 1000 CKZ is around 36 GBP Edited October 12, 2009 by Jean-Luc Pickguard
tischbein
I had one, pimped it with decent pu´s and sold.... it was cheap looking and sounding. Sorry. Get an SX and pimp it. Bach doesn´t exist anymore, even though you can find one on egay everyonce in a while.
lowended
thanks for your info Ive talked to Roman from Bach and the company is still running, He has a few stuff on stock and he said they are gonna make a bunch of models out of catalog right now. In noizewood Italy the guy is selling stuff so I think they are working.... I guess this is not a great bass but maybe with some changes here and there you have a better instrument than a squier or a crappy mexican for the amount... I just need to know the diff between alder and mahogany woods, if mahogany is the typical of gibson I dont like them for low ends, really muddy for me...I prefer the "twang" of fenders Thats what Im asking..... kurcatovium
They're local in my country (Czech Republic) although their instruments are produced somewhere in Asia (i.e. China). That said means it's nothing of real quality. Some of those basses looks pretty good, but they're cheap and equal quality. tischbein: They still exist and are selling instruments. bumnote
I bought a bunch of basses from Bach and sold them on. For the money they were very good value, but the fretting was adequate but only just. The precision and Jazz were very heavy, being made from mahogany. I liked the 51 it was very punchy and l wish I had kept it. I also bought a white 335 clone with a bigsby, again really good value and not a bad guitar at all. The new squiers are imo better but they are also more expensive.
lowended
squiers are made of basswood body, I think an alder, ash or mahogany body with a rio grande or dundan pick-up should be better......but maybe Im wrong, what do u think???? bumnote
The squier is better finished, the 51 pickups on the squier [I have a classic vibe 50s] and on the bach are remarkable good. The butterscotch finish on the bach 51 doesnt look particulalrly good. I would be tempted to buy a natural mahogany bach keep the original pickup but screen it with copper tape, and spend some money getting the frets done if required. I could be tempted by one myself. BTW, bit of a long thread at the Last Bass Outpost - I hope you didn't have to read it all. pal1972
I had a mahogany '51 a coupke of years ago, for the money it was OK, never got round to modding it so sold it!!! I did, however like the look/feel of it but sound wise it wasn't great.

First they said no, special order only, then a few weeks later got an email asking if I still wanted one. By then I'd gone off the idea. Maybe worth an email of anyone wants one. Delberthot
The Warmoth single coil P in my avatar has a mahogany body and quarter pounder pickup and it never sounded muddy - it can go from deep and low to bright, zingy and modern but never muddy - I did also use 500k pots though which will make a difference. spinynorman
I've had several mahogany basses, including a Gibson IV, an Epi Elitist EB3, both mahogany throughout, and an Ibanez Jazz copy which was mahogany body/maple neck. I wouldn't describe them as muddy, but there's something about the wood that makes them feel very different from basswood/maple or alder/maple. Springy was the word I came up with for the Gibson IV, like the whole thing was vibrating with the strings. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it seems that you're either going to like it a lot, or really not like it at all. lowended
Ive bought the p51 butterschoch finally, I just come back from a vintage music shop, they sold hundreds of vintage and modern basses from every single decade....they were amazed about the sound of this bach, for the money kicks a lot of more expensive basses, good tone, very loud output, not too much feedback, very confortable....so im very glad Now Im confusing about changing the pick up or not, this one is more than acceptable
Damn-Deal-Done
This thread isn't too old so I hope no one minds me opening it up again. To anyone who has bought a Bass from Bach Music, what was the packing like? Any danger of receiving a damaged instrument? Interested in their black 4004, looks like a solid canvas to mod. Thanks
hillbilly deluxe
They are also going to build these. http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=2847.

The NonReverse TBird is now in the Bach catalogue, though it says Sold Out.
