ianwild16
Do active guitars always need the battery? Specifically the Fender Deluxe Mexican Active Jazz Bass Guitar Thanks Ian
EssentialTension
They always need a battery (or two) unless they have a passive switch that bypasses the pre-amp. My Fender US Deluxe Precision does not have a passive switch. I don't know about the bass you name though.
nash
you always need the battery for that bass
RussFM
Yeah you always do - great bass though
thisnameistaken
Most active basses can't be switched into passive operation, so don't let this put you off if you like the bass.
chris_b
As soon as you go active you should always carry spare batteries (and a screwdriver) then the question doesn't arise!
Rowbee
I much prefer active anyway. :snob:
ianwild16
excuse me for being ignorant but what are the advantages of active over passive?

Thump Boy
Always carry a spare battery but also buy a bass that can be switched to passive because your guitar player might steal your battery for his pedal because he does not follow the "always carry a spare battery" rule. My Peavey Dyna Bass is active but I play it passive all the time. It still sounds good.
