How do you date a Fender case?

A friend rolled in with an old Fender case he had found in a skip. Black, orange inside. Pretty mature metalwork but all functioning.

I fancy it, but do not want to rip him off or anything.

Google 'vintage fender case year' or similar. There's a great website detailing some very fine distinctions between years but I can't find it at present. If it's 60'-early 80's it's all in the logo, the 'R' in the circle, and the underlining

This is a 'friend' who found this case in a skip. It cost him nothing. If he is a friend he should simply give it to you. End of story. Would you not do the same for him?

I sold a mid '70s bass case in average condition on ebay for £150. It sold within 10 minutes of me kisting it suggesting it may have been underpriced?
