~tl Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Are you looking for NOS British tubes or the new (Russian) Mullard reissues? If you're looking for the reissues, then Hotrox or Watford Valves are good places to start. If you're looking for NOS tubes, then you're in for a search... eBay's probably a good place to start (but the chance of getting a dud is probably high). Quote

Anders Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Thanks Umph and tl. I guess i'll go with the JJ's,since the technician at Matamp recommended those too. I read somewhere that Mullard tubes are great but probarbly not the new ones then. Quote
Monz Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Mine are JJ's and give me a wonderful tone... did you try those settings? Quote
Anders Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009
Mine are JJ's and give me a wonderful tone... did you try those settings?
If you mean full bass,no treble or precense, yes.Still not enough in my opinion, that's why i called a technician at Matamp who recommended changing the middle tube to a JJ ECC 82/12AU7.I'll try that and see what happens. bigjohn Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 A little dickie bird told me there's someone planning to make Mullards again soon in Coventry. Quote
cocco Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I find Watford Valves to be the best. they test tubes in a ridiculous ammount of ways and you can garauntee fast freindly service. Quote

Totally haven't got a citation for that at the moment though. Quote

He reckons they'll be pretty close to the originals otherwise they wouldn't be bothering / he wouldn't know about them. He designs and makes bespoke valve hifis mostly so he knows his valves. Quote

tayste_2000 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I need to give one of these companies a call as I need 2 matched sets of 12 for my current rig as I think it will be with me for a very very long time Quote

They're, unsurprisingly, not cheap... but have had pretty good write-ups so far. If you want new production, then I hear the new Tung Sol's are good too. Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I used to work at the Mullard factory in the 80s. I made Geiger Muller tubes, single channel electron multipliers (SCEMs) and image intensifier envelopes. I was told that some of the SCEMs I made were ordered by NASA & went to space in one of the the space shuttle missions. I think they had already finished making valves at the Mitcham site before I started though. Quote
