EdwardHimself
I'm getting a bit annoyed with my guitar player because all he wants to do it seems is play a load of his "original" songs that he spends about 5 minutes writing and they all sound crap. Even if we can't do the songs that we're supposed to be doing right. We seriously need to be a lot tighter than we are now (a lot to do with the fact that he doesn't seem to be bothered about practising either the songs we're doing or his timing with a metronome) and when i tell him this he just says i'm "being a perfectionist" despite the fact that the bass player also thinks we should be tighter. He says "we can't have it 100% perfect" well maybe not but right now we're not even close to being perfect and it's just not good enough. The best bit though is he's complaining at me for not recording the guitar parts! I mean what the hell? I'm sorry but it's just ridiculous because if he's not even going to put the effort to make a song sound tight on the guitar then it's not going to make a very good sounding recording. He's been playing for something like 8 years now so it's not because he's inexperienced he just seems to want to learn new songs and techniques instead of working on the basics of timing and sounding tight. Even the bass player who's been playing for 6 months seems to do a better job of timing. Sometimes i just feel a lot like quitting because i don't think i'm good enough to join a really good band but i feel like we're not doing good enough in our band now. gary mac
Chin up mate. Think yourself lucky, the function band I play with usually has four/five guitards. I cope with your grief, times four. I do sympathise, but as for advice, I'm not your man today. My heads all fuzzy as I just watched an episode of Jeremy Kiel, where do these people all hide out when not an that show. Golchen
Sounds very irritating. I can't see a long term future to be honest, he sounds way too self indulgent. So you're not the bass player then? What do you play?

bubinga5
Sounds like he's a dreamer..with no talent ive been there..with a pianist who wanted to be a singer songwriter, trouble is he knew nothing about writing music...your all in it together in a band, unless your a session bassist being payed to play.. Ed, you say your not good enough to join a good band? there isnt just bad bands and pro bands..in between there are people maybe like you who may want more and push themselves..dont be afraid to advertise yourself and state where you are and you want to be a better musician...there are clubs open mic nights, jam night's, people who want to jam..takes just a little confidence thats all.. i went to a Jazz open mic night an i was shxxxing myself, only the Sei and the groove got me by... but by and all musicians are a very friendly bunch who welcome you.. music is about a personal journey, but along the way there are some amazing people that can help you see a bigger picture.. i dont want to sway you..(ok maybe i have) but i would walk, and go where you are not held back.. no Ed is the bass player in Question..i think he was refering to himself? good luck bro..
