Im in a quite happy smiley mood and want to learn a new song. Just been playing and singing along to Heroes by Bowie.

Can you recomend me some songs to learn?

Basically I want them to be

pretty songs
easy to sing (im a terrible singer)
Nothing too complex bass wise (I strugle multitasking singing and bass)
something that sounds nice with just bass and vocals

Any recomendations would be great.

Im into:
Bowie
RHCP
The Doors (doesnt have a bassist so ill strugle haha)
killers
kings of leon
Johnny Cash
Joy Division
The Who
Stone Roses

Oh and before someone mentions it. Not Pea by Flea. :)

Thanks
Jobie

Especially nice if you have a fretless but it works fine without. "Coming back to life" by the Floyd. This sounds really pretty with just a voice over it and it doesn't matter how slow you want to play it. Just a nice song that works well with chords. Just follow the first keyboard part and then keep it that tempo for the rest of the song.

How about having a crack at Walk on By by the Stranglers, which sounds just like the Doors in the extended middle section and is great to jam along to?

I would suggest trying to find a song with a simple guitar line and vocals and transpose it to your bass one example I can think of is chasing cars by snow patrol.. bass line is boring as hell but take the part and put it on. Your bass and it puts a new dynamic on the song... easy to sing to...

Hope that helps...
