zoom 607 multi effects unit

hi i have bought one of these and it is my first ever effects unit. but it does not have a manual with it, so was wondering if you can have it pluged in but not use it? so you have it plugged in to your amp and that but its just the normal sound of a bass? hard to explain hopfully you get it though

bypass by pressing both pedals at the same time, although I've heard it's not totally clear (still a bit of extra hiss from the pedal)
