Well I certainly wouldn't call it dull, but I would suggest the SPB-1 over it. I had the SPB-2 for quite a while and found myself just dialling out the pokey mid-range, whereas the SPB-1 has a much more balanced tone straight from the bass, perfect for overdrive and the like. I'd really only recommend the hot pickup only for punk, where the aggression of such an obnoxious pickup is exactly what you'd want. Otherwise, the vintage has everything you'd need from a precision, so just get that and EQ accordingly.

Tried an SPB-2 in my P-Bass; couldn't wait to get it out & replace it!
They're overwound, way too pokey for me, not subtle at all, unreal amount of mids & not much else.
I'm sure they have their fans, otherwise Seymour Duncan wouldn't sell them & they definitely have a character of their own.
Very much a 'marmite' pickup IMO
