tom1946
Morning all, I recently acquired a Mex P bass that someone has fitted a Gotoh bridge to and the action is too high for comfort and it won't go any lower because the saddles are as low as they can go. I'm not clever enough to risk shimming the neck so the question is, would filing the barrels be a viable option? Excuse my ignorance but I'm a novice with doing this stuff. Alternatively are smaller barrels available? (I did successfully shield my CIJ Jaguar with help from here) Any advice very much appreciated. leonshelley01
Shimming isn't difficult, I did it after fitting Gotoh bridges to my Jazz basses. Here is a thread with an easy to follow guide: How To Shim A Neck. Filing the barrels would be 1) more difficult and 2) permanent, whereas shimming is easy to take out later if you so wish. Mr.T
I have had the same problem when fitting Gotoh 201's. Shimming is the way to go.
