Upright/ EUB Preamps

Hi all,
Anyone use a Phil Jones Bass buddy as a preamp for their Upright or electric upright? Is it worth considering or is the Fishman the way to go as its specific to the Upright/ EUB. What are your comparisons/ experiences??

The Art tube MP works well but has no EQ. Dave Hall's new DI EQ also works well and has a 1m input which works wonders for piezo pickups plus EQ. Tried my Sadowsky pre/DI but makes the bass way too boomy.

Haven't tried the PJ stuff so can't comment on that.

The Bass Buddy is a superb preamp. Designed by a bassist, for bassists. While it's a preamp primarily used by electric bassists, the eq is voiced specifically for bass instruments. The signal is super clean with no tone colouration, is quiet and the compressor is superb. The small size, excellent build quality and feature set are certainly worth considering.

Thanks for the insight, and i was looking at the said buddy on ebay which prompted my thoughts about going down this route as its not just a preamp. I was just a little concerned how it might deal with a piezo pickup for my Clifton for example

Well, I'm not too sure about the piezo side of things, as I have limited experience with them. I have used a piezo in an EUB before, the Bass Buddy handled that okay. Not too sure in an acoustic upright setting. The Bass Buddy is well priced and you would easily make your money back as they retail for £300 new. Might be worth a shot just to see, if the funds permit of course?

I use a Fishman Platinum with my Eminence and it does a great job. The phase switch in particular is very useful.
