The Bass Doc Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Yes they're good - worth 'proper' money i.e. on a par with standard Fender. Quote
sweeneyjimbob Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 see if i was to sell them i wouldnt know what price to put on them recomendations? Quote
sweeneyjimbob Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 that would be ace as i payed less than that for the bass Quote
The Bass Doc Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Hmm..if you're re-fitting the Hondo, what would you put in place of the DiMarzio? I've got some cheapies for round about a tenner. Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Te ones with cermaic magnets either side of allen head screws? I like the sound but mine were unpotted so were microphonic. Got 3 or 4 sets laying about (some are from Westone Thunder, are they own branded, but the same, or just similar build?). Could I pot them in a wax pot for ladies legs? Quote

I have a whole pile of similar pickups, one set are Dimarzios (or so I was told) they have a pair of black ceramic magnets and the poles go between them, and are hight adjustable. Some were from my Westone Thunder (thing were called 'Hard Puncher' pickups) but are the same contruction. The other set I removed from my BC Rich because they were microphonic at volume, the windings would vibrate and squeal. I was wondering if this could be cured by dipping in melted wax, as they sound great. Quote
Bassassin Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009
Suggest £40 - anyone agree?
I do - in fact I paid £40 for an old P copy simply for the DiMarzio. Turned out the bass was pretty decent too. Oli - the one from your Westy Thunder will likely be decent Japanese DiMarzio copies. DiMarzios should have black/white/red/green wiring, likely will be different on the Jap pup. Jon. Quote
sweeneyjimbob Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 cool ill get pics up later Quote
sweeneyjimbob Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) this help? Edited November 8, 2009 by sweeneyjimbob Quote
The Bass Doc Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Yup, definitely DiM - the less common plain slug magnets as opposed to the allen key version - should sound good. Quote
sweeneyjimbob Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 ill more than likely stick em on here for trades or summat i havnt got any use for them Quote
Bassassin Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Good find - if I was you I'd leave these in the bass, good vintage pups & I doubt replacements will sound any better. Jon. Quote
