Another mojo'd 70s P bass (along the lines of what I am searching for). I am 99% certain I've seen this for sale before

Does this look all legit to you Fender specialists (ie, no mods, replacement parts etc)? BTW, the serial number dates it to 1975 not the 1974 he claims :)

I'd be curious to know the purpose of the additional hole in the scratchplate between the tone pot and the jack socket...

... and a touch too much mojo for my taste, partic on the headstock, but hey...

Thanks SDV - I assume extra s/p hole was for a switch (maybe it had active pickup system at one stage?)

I'm not sure on this one (as stated the year is incorrect on the ad and I'm certain I've seen this advertised before) and its too far away for me to view so I think I will pass on going for this - its too much money not to be 100% certain

Yeah.. pickguard hole aside, it all looks present and correct. Not sure if that route from the pickup to the control cavity is correct, though?

It's a very late-era TV logo, too. A bit overpriced IMO.

I think they did start routing through from pickup to control cavity at the time. The extra hole suggests a Di Marzio was once fitted and the owner fell for the hype that came with that unit which offered two settings (series and parallel) - no-one I knew found the thinner sound of any use.

Apart from that I think it's a 'real un'.

I wasn't sure when that started happening... cheers, Doc!

Definitely - but he is open to offers which is what got me thinking. Thanks Bass Doc for shedding some more light on rout etc

You know my thoughts - it's a five hour round trip from you mate, if you're seriously looking for 'the one' you're gonna have to make those sorts of trips. He's open to offers also (and let's face it when a seller uses the 'make offer' option, they generally bump the asking price up accordingly). At that price he's pushing his luck so I imagine he's hoping there's someone out there desperate for an old mojo'd bass. The fact that it didn't sell previously suggests there isn't, so you're in a strong position. It's also getting closer to Christmas and ebay selling prices for non-pressie goods will start to drop. Go play the bass, if it's a good one, offer £1250 cash - that's the equivalent of a Best Offer of close to £1400 on ebay once you've taken listing and Paypal fees into account. Waving that amount of cash around on a wet Sunday afternoon* can have a very poweful impact on negotiations

Simples :)
